Job Purpose:
The Team Lead of clinical documentation improvement (CDI) is responsible for day-to-day coordination and supervision of the CDI team within the parameters defined by the Department Director. The responsibilities include assignment of duties, assistance with quarterly performance reviews, training and on-boarding of new CDI team members, performing audits and second-level chart reviews, compiling power point presentations and delivering physician education on clinical documentation improvement, as well as assisting CDI and coding with DRG reconciliation process. In the absence of the director, the Team Lead will take on the responsibilities of planning, managing, coordinating and performing day-to-day operations of the clinical documentation improvement department.
Education:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's degree.
Licenses and/or Certifications (Required and Preferred):
RN, CCDS/CDIP required; CCS preferred, not required
Related Work Experience and Other Skills:
Minimum 5 years experience in Clinical Documentation Improvement with expert-level knowledge and mastery of the entire CDI scope of duties.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
All of the work is done using a PC in an office or home office environment. This position requires sitting or standing (depending on the desk used) for extended periods of time; usage of keyboard and monitor(s).
Job Roles
1) Assist with daily CDI operations, including monitoring of CDI team's productivity, compliance with legal/ethical requirements and quality improvement initiatives.
2) Provide input to CDI Director in the review and evaluation of staff performance appraisals and personnel issues.
3) Conduct second-level reviews for CDI, coding and quality teams.
4) Compile and deliver CDI-related education to healthcare providers, CDI team and other departments.
5) Coordinate initial training for new hires as well as education for existing staff, when there are changes in process/technology. Monitor and address technical difficulties experienced by staff and assist with 3M 360 software prioritization tool retune.
6) Identify CDI opportunities by prescreening charts and assign charts to CDI staff.
7) Monitor CDI workflow and resolve accounts from work-queues using departmental prioritization rules and deadlines.
8) Supervise CDI daily chart review process and provide guidance to CDI team's questions in secure chat.
9) Conduct CDI team chart review audits biannually.
10) In the absence of the director, the Team Lead will take on the responsibilities of planning, managing, coordinating and performing day-to-day operations of the clinical documentation improvement department
