Full Job Description
The Cloud Engineer - Windows designs, implements, and supports cloud-hosted Windows server environments that underpin mission-critical applications in secure federal cloud or hybrid infrastructures. This role builds and maintains virtual machines, images, and automation to provision Windows workloads efficiently and consistently. The engineer configures identity, networking, storage, and monitoring for Windows systems to ensure security, availability, performance, and cost objectives are met across the client environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and administer Windows server instances in public or private cloud platforms, including image management, patching, and configuration baseline enforcement.
  • Design and implement cloud networking constructs that support Windows workloads, such as virtual networks, subnets, network security groups, and load balancers.
  • Automate Windows deployment and configuration using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools to enable repeatable builds and consistent compliance.
  • Integrate Windows instances with directory services and identity providers, implementing appropriate access controls for highly regulated environments.
  • Monitor and tune Windows systems in the cloud using native platform tools and logs to maintain performance, availability, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with application, security, and DevOps teams to integrate Windows-based services into broader cloud architectures and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Implement and support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes for Windows workloads in accordance with federal IT policies and standards.
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, and diagrams describing Windows cloud architectures, configurations, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Typically 4-7+ years of experience in Windows system administration with several years working on cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or similar.
  • Strong proficiency managing Windows servers in cloud environments, including image management, configuration, patching, and security hardening.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (for example, PowerShell, Python, or similar) and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking, identity and access management, logging, and monitoring services.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Cloud certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent vendor credentials.
  • Experience supporting Windows-based application stacks including IIS, .NET applications, and related middleware in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how Windows workloads are incorporated into automated build and release processes.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated federal cloud environments, including alignment with security and compliance requirements.
