Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW

The Tax Associate/Senior Associate, Compliance, will join the Bain Capital Tax Department in Boston and report directly to the Head of Fund Tax, Credit & Global Special Situations. They will play a central role in ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of tax compliance and reporting and collaborate with internal Bain Capital teams and external tax advisors on tax structuring and tax strategies for the Credit & Global Special Situations businesses. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multiple groups within Bain Capital, including the Bain Capital Credit & Global Special Situations investment teams, investor relations, finance, legal and treasury.

THE ROLE

Key responsibilities in support of the Credit & Global Special Situations businesses will include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and fund accountants to facilitate the timely preparation of fund tax return filings and K-1 reporting.
  • Provide support to external tax return preparers by reviewing tax return workpapers, tax allocations and tax estimates.
  • Partner with external tax advisors to review quarterly tax projections, US and state tax withholding and estimated payments. Provide guidance on year-end tax reporting (Forms 1099, 1042, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the Tax Team and external tax advisors on complex tax issues and tax strategies.
  • Interface with the investor relations team to support responses to investor requests for tax information.
  • Collaborate with external advisors and internal administrators to manage federal, state and local tax notices and audit responses.
  • Use independent judgement in setting priorities; assist with ad-hoc projects and day-to-day tax questions from the business.
  • Prepare documents, presentations, and meeting materials including structure charts and spreadsheets.
  • Laise with internal finance and operations teams to ensure proper booking of new structures and transactions
  • Assist with the migration to AI based software.
  • Maintain, update and create tax databases and/or database information (e.g. files, trackers, etc.).


GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following professional skills and experiences:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant or J.D./LL.M. preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) or the credit, alternative assets or private equity sector
  • Experienced tax professional with a desire to learn and become in involved in a wide variety of projects.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills, with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Able to effectively articulate tax concepts and issues to non-tax professionals
  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit. Take initiative and lead projects.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines while working under pressure.
  • Highly motivated, team-focused, and results oriented.
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Adobe.

Expected Annual Base Salary $105,000 - 120,000

Actual base salary will be determined by a wide range of factors including but not limited to role, function, level, experience, qualifications and geographic location. In addition to a competitive base salary, this position may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based upon factors such as individual impact, team and firm performance.
