Job Responsibilities - Lead or co-lead one of the State and Local Tax practice areas
- Apportionment and revenue sourcing for income, business activity and indirect taxes
- State tax forecasting, tax planning and deep knowledge of tax law
- Coordinate the US State and Local income and franchise tax accrual process
- Manage State and Local tax return review
- Represent Client in Tax Controversies, implement state tax planning for corporations, individuals and partnerships
- Provide tax engine consulting, optimization, training and implementation for Clients
- Areas of concentration will include: income franchise taxes business licenses, sales & use taxes other transactional taxes, property taxes and state credits and incentives
- Manage implementation and support the preparation of thought leadership related to any multistate income/sales tax related legislation enacted
- Conduct multistate technical research to support filing positions
- Develop tools to assist our clients to manage the tax compliance process more efficiently
- Timely responsiveness to internal and external clients; our SALT team stresses quality client service timely delivery of projects
- Oversee the efforts of multiple client services teams on client engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects in a wide variety of industries; and market, sell, design, and implement innovative tax-planning strategies for clients; and manage to budget
- Make recommendations on business and process improvements related to SALT filings
- Deliver a full range of State and Local Tax services including tax return preparation and review, tax research, preparation of technical memorandums, drafting client correspondence, and counseling client in defending against state audits
- Oversee multi-disciplinary, multi-state reviews that analyze income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, valorem taxes, and others to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, credits and incentives, and corporate structures that can reduce the client's tax burden
- Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on tax projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews

Requirements - Minimum 12 years of SALT experience with an emphasis on responsibilities listed above
- Public accounting experience preferred, especially Big 4
- Minimum 5 years in a managerial role involving Clients and team members
- Strong selling skills - generating leads, making contacts and securing clients
- Strong project management and leadership skills including the ability to successfully coach and mentor talented people
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

- Bachelor's in accounting and/or MST and/or LLM
- Professional accreditation preferred, but eligibility to sit for the CPA exam or a CPA or other relevant certification/ State Bar Exam/EA/Etc. required
- Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Excel, Powerpoint, Word, knowledge of OneSource, GoSystems and other software and databases a plus
- Strong knowledge of tax reporting, tax research, and tax planning on a multi-state level
- Preferred Knowledge of Power-BI, Alteryx, advanced Excel skills, or comparable
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team oriented professional
- Ability to work independently as well as in groups, responsive, eager, dynamic

Certain states require us to disclose the pay range and benefits summary for job openings. The compensation range for this position: $241,400 - $328,800. Compensation may vary based on skills, role, and location. Eligible employees at certain levels can participate in a discretionary long-term financial incentive plan, subject to plan participation rules.
