What is the opportunity?

As a Tax Manager within RBC Taxation, you will be part of a dynamic group of forward-thinking and technology-enabled tax professionals who value working in a fast-paced team environment. In this role, you will be directly responsible for supporting RBC's Canadian tax compliance and reporting obligations, both domestic and international. In addition, you will have opportunities to assist senior members of the RBC Taxation Group with the delivery of value-added tax advisory and planning services to all business units operating within the RBC group.

Our ideal candidate is a self-starting team player with strong analytical and organizational skills, and an ability to communicate complex tax matters to both tax and non-tax audiences. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to continually developing their own tax knowledge and an inherent desire to simplify and improve tax compliance work through process refinements, standardization of best practices and the adoption of tax technology solutions.

What will you do?
  • Prepare monthly income and capital tax provisions, and quarterly tax note reporting for assigned subsidiaries
  • Manage the income and capital tax return preparation process for assigned subsidiaries as well as assist the team in the preparation of Canadian international tax compliance work (including surplus calculations, T106 and T1134 information returns for foreign affiliates)
  • Ensure that reconciliations of income and capital tax accounts are in accordance with RBC's audit requirements and its standards of documentation
  • Ensure timely preparation and payment of income tax and capital tax instalments for your assigned entities
  • Support other RBC Taxation Group team members, as well as business partners, in the delivery of value-added tax advice
  • Research and prepare responses to CRA audit queries
  • Keep abreast of Canadian tax legislative developments to determine and communicate the impact to relevant stakeholders within RBC, and recommend strategies and solutions to the senior levels of the RBC Taxation Group to manage the impact of such legislative developments
  • Identify, support and operationalize improvements to processes with latest technology and/ or best practices


What do you need to succeed?

Must-have
  • CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation
  • Minimum 3 years of full-time Canadian tax experience in a large corporation or major accounting firm
  • Good knowledge of financial and tax accounting principles
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to meet multiple deadlines and work under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate Excel skills, proficient in look ups, pivot tables, and similar functions
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • A performance driven attitude with a continuous process improvement mindset seeking best in class operations and solutions
  • Staying current with technological advances, particularly AI


Nice to have:
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, including Power Query, Power Pivot, and VBA
  • Knowledge of Canadian taxation for international subsidiaries
  • Partial completion of the CICA in-depth tax course
  • Completion of a Masters in Taxation (MTax) course
