Full Job Description
Looking to move beyond another cycle of returns, deadlines, and high-volume client work? This is a rare opportunity to step into a role with end-to-end ownership of complex tax planning and compliance for a single, multi-generational family. This is not a high-volume busy-season role-it's a high-trust, high-accountability environment where you'll gain deep, long-term insight into the client's tax and financial landscape and play a meaningful role in supporting them over time.

The Opportunity

You'll lead the full tax compliance and planning lifecycle for three generations of family members, spouses, and related entities, partnering with internal stakeholders and outside advisors to deliver excellent outcomes. This position reports to the Senior Director of Tax and includes review of, and guidance on, work prepared by the Senior Tax Accountant.

We're looking for someone who enjoys thinking deeply, exercising sound judgment, working independently, and knowing when to bring in the right expertise to solve complex issues. If you're energized by technical complexity, planning strategy, and end-to-end ownership, this role offers a compelling long-term opportunity.

What You'll Do

Compliance Ownership & Review

  • Own preparation and review of complex federal and state filings, including Individual (1040), Trust (1041), Gift (709), Partnership (1065), and Private Foundation (990-PF) returns
  • Review work prepared by the Senior Tax Accountant to ensure accuracy and reduce risk
  • Calculate and timely file/pay quarterly estimates and extension payments

Planning, Projections & Advisory

  • Execute proactive income and estate tax planning, including cash-tax management and wealth-transfer strategies
  • Prepare multi-year projections and planning analyses that support smart decisions over time
  • Research and advise on evolving tax law affecting HNW individuals, trusts, operating entities, and private foundations

Process Improvement & Issue Resolution

  • Improve compliance workflow and leverage technology to manage a growing volume of returns
  • Respond to IRS and state notices and examinations in a timely manner

Who Will Thrive in This Role

  • You want to move beyond high-volume client service and go deeper with fewer, more complex situations
  • You enjoy technical work and want to see the long-term impact of your planning decisions
  • You are ready to own work end-to-end, rather than contribute just one piece of the process
  • You value a high-trust, low-ego environment where your judgment and discretion matter
  • You prefer a small, collaborative team where your impact is visible

What We're Looking For
  • 6+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting serving HNW clients and/or family offices
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; MBT or Master of Accountancy preferred
  • Active CPA license required
  • Strong knowledge of individual, trust, gift/estate, partnership, and foundation taxation; proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., OneSource/GoSystems)
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong client-service mindset, excellent communication and organization skills, and the discretion required in a family office environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • Projected salary range: $130,000-$160,000, depending on qualifications, relevant experience and skills
  • Eligible for an annual bonus opportunity
  • Benefits designed to support health, well-being, and financial security, including medical/dental/vision coverage, 401(k) with company match, life and disability insurance programs, HSA/FSA options, and professional development/certification & licensure support

Work Location & Schedule

  • Hybrid work environment with a minimum of three in-office days per week
  • Located at Carlson Towers in Minnetonka, with onsite amenities including café and fitness center

Ready to Apply?

If you're looking for a role where technical excellence, independent judgment, and long-term thinking matter-and where you can take real ownership in a sophisticated family office environment-we'd like to hear from you.
