Full Job Description
Position Overview
The candidate will join Rockpoint's tax team based in the Boston, MA office and will report to the Managing Director of Tax. The successful candidate will participate as a key team member in a broad range of tax responsibilities that will include the review and execution of federal, state, and local tax compliance tasks. This individual will collaborate with multiple groups within the company, including the property management, accounting, investor relations and finance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Property-level responsibilities include:
    • Coordinate with property accountants and joint venture partners to facilitate the preparation and review of all federal, state, and local tax return filings. This includes all income and non-income based filings and payment obligations.
    • Work with internal tax and property management team members on all tax specific transactions.
    • Manage compliance of REIT entities, including quarterly and year end REIT tests.
  • Fund-level responsibilities include:
    • Assist the fund's outside tax preparers with the preparation and review of the federal, state, and local tax return workpapers, partner tax allocations, estimates, and projections for all applicable entities within the organizational structure, including REITs, TRSs, corporate blockers, and partnerships.
    • Monitor and track upcoming tax compliance obligations.
    • Collaborate with external tax advisors on all aspects of income and non-income based tax compliance.
    • Assist with the preparation and review of all federal and state income, non-income, and withholding tax payments.
    • Proactively seek out tax compliance process areas to improve.
    • Assist with corporate blocker structures related to shareholder loan maintenance. This includes maintaining LTV calculations and loan amortization schedules related to quarterly interest accruals and classifications for capital call and distribution notices.
    • Assist with the preparation and review of the ASC740 analysis for all corporate blockers and TRSs.
    • Manage budgets, billings, and engagement letters with external tax advisors.
    • Stay current on tax law changes and identify potential tax issues or areas for tax optimization.
    • Work closely with investor relations on investor tax related inquiries.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and CPA
  • 2-4 years of experience with partnership tax issues as well as other relevant areas of federal, state, and international taxation for investment managers and real estate private equity funds
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Outstanding productivity and proven organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Exceptional quantitative, written, and oral communication skills with acute attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with ability to take initiative and drive tasks forward proactively
  • Team-player with an ability to solve problems while collaborating with various interdepartmental personnel
  • Intelligence, integrity, drive, and flexibility


Location
The position is based primarily in Rockpoint's Boston office.

Compensation
The expected base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
