Full Job Description
The Tax Advisor is a senior-level individual contributor on Sequoia Financial Group's Tax Team who operates at the intersection of hands-on tax compliance and strategic client-facing advisory work - managing the full lifecycle of individual and trust tax returns and projections, while also serving as the firm's internal subject matter expert on evolving tax law. Beyond the technical work, this role carries real client relationship responsibility: the Tax Advisor actively participates in and sometimes leads client meetings alongside advisors, manages proactive outreach, prepares agendas, and ensures timely follow-up - all with a high standard of confidentiality and fiduciary care. Working collaboratively across functional areas, they develop customized tax planning recommendations for high-net-worth clients and may also support small business tax work including S Corporation and partnership returns. The ideal candidate holds a CPA, brings 10+ years of individual and trust tax experience, is highly organized and self-directed with strong communication skills, and ideally has prior wealth management experience.
Responsibilities
Serves as a tax resource for the firm's client base. Participates, sometimes leading, client meetings with advisors.
Serves as an internal firm expert on tax planning, including staying current on tax law/code changes and their applicability to client situations.
Provides direct client service both individually and collaboratively and may rely on technical specialists from multiple functional areas to develop customized recommendations.
As an individual contributor, has responsibility for the preparation, review, and completion of individual and trust tax returns and tax projections.
Responsible for ensuring that all tax-related research and data gathering is complete, and presentation materials are prepared in a timely fashion for clients and prospects.
Works within a defined technology system where client contact is made on a proactive basis. Assists in preparing agendas, organizing plans, presenting to tax clients and prospects, anticipating and scheduling tax-related meetings, and providing appropriate follow-up.
May assist with small business tax work, including S Corporation and partnership tax returns.
Required Skills/Experience
A bachelor's degree, with a major in accounting or finance
Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation required
10+ years of experience in providing individual and trust tax services
Proficiency with tax software solutions
Strong acumen with MS Office tools.
Developed set of communications skills
Preferred Skills/Experience
Experience using client relationship management software (such as Salesforce and Tamarac)
Prior experience in Wealth Management
