Full Job Description

Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers’ portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

Space and cyberspace are increasingly interdependent, and with the accelerating move to software-based systems and use of emerging technologies (e.g. AI) the ability to architect systems-of-systems to operate with high reliability and security is of paramount importance. The Cyber Architectures & Integration organization is focused on supporting the US Space Force and partners identify and acquire resilient and secure space systems-of-systems and apply Artificial Intelligence in selected applications, including systems acquisition and security. Core efforts include the development of mission engineering products in support of the USSF Cyberwarfare mission by applying systems engineering and architecture principles to define cybersecurity capabilities and solutions that enable system-level design and assessment.

The Systems-of-Systems Engineer/Architect will lead efforts to collaborate with customers; identify capability, architecture and documentation gaps; and lead projects aimed at developing coordinated and analysis-based products and approaches to address the gaps. These efforts will include capability definition for systems across the space architecture including Space Vehicle (SV) Systems, spanning bus, payloads, and onboard subsystems as well as ground and user systems. Development of products to enhance mission effectiveness, including standards, models, and architecture views, is the critical objective.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Translate mission and intent into architecture-level constructs and expected system behavior
  • Identify and lead matrixed Aerospace engineering staff and project teams to develop meaningful architecture and systems-of-systems engineering products
  • Define and maintain SV Systems resiliency and security capability structures using systems engineering principle
  • Direct MBSE/modeling teams to ensure accurate representation of capabilities and candidate implementation
  • Translate technical outputs into program-usable guidance and artifacts
  • Engage proactively and strategically with stakeholders across the space and cybersecurity communities to validate and refine products

What You Need to be Successful Sr. Project Engineer - Cyber Security Architecture & Engineering Program Management

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor or higher degree from an accredited technical program in engineering, computer science or other applicable degree.
  • 10 years of related relevant professional experience in systems engineering, architecture, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience applying systems engineering and architecture principles within embedded, mission-critical, or constrained system environments
  • Demonstrated ability to translate between architectural elements and system-level requirements and behaviors
  • Demonstrated ability to define how system solutions are evaluated, including performance under failure or degraded conditions
  • Willing to travel domestically approximately 10%.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to acquire a security clearance.
