Job Summary

 

Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is seeking a highly experienced Senior Systems Engineer, Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Level 4 to provide senior-level technical leadership and systems engineering support to the BMC3I mission.

 

The Senior Systems Engineer SME will serve as a trusted technical advisor to Government leadership, supporting complex system-of-systems integration, architecture, requirements development, interface management, technical assessments, test and evaluation, and capability integration across multiple programs and stakeholders.

 

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience supporting complex DoD systems, strong systems engineering judgment, and the ability to identify technical risks, resolve integration challenges, and provide clear recommendations to senior program and technical leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The Systems Engineer SME will:

• Serve as a senior technical advisor to Government leadership on complex systems engineering, integration, mission architecture, and compliance activities supporting BMC3I 
• Lead and support system-of-systems engineering activities across multiple programs, platforms, interfaces, and mission partners 
• Develop, analyze, and refine system requirements, technical baselines, interface definitions, architecture products, and engineering documentation to ensure alignment with mission and program objectives 
• Identify and assess technical risks, integration challenges, performance gaps, compliance deficiencies, and cross-program dependencies; recommend mitigation strategies and corrective actions 
• Support technical planning, design and architecture reviews, requirements reviews, test readiness reviews, and other engineering decision forums 
• Evaluate system performance, technical maturity, interoperability, and mission effectiveness using engineering analysis, modeling and simulation, test data, and operational feedback 
• Coordinate with Government program offices, engineering teams, contractors, laboratories, security personnel, system administrators, and mission partners to resolve technical and compliance issues 
• Support interface management, including the definition and validation of system interfaces, data exchanges, external dependencies, and interoperability requirements 
• Provide technical oversight and assessment of contractor-developed solutions, engineering products, design approaches, and technical deliverables 
• Support test and evaluation planning, integration events, demonstrations, verification activities, and requirements validation 
• Serve as a primary point of contact for BMC3I Elite-related audits and assessments, coordinating audit schedules, evidence requests, interviews, walkthroughs, and documentation submissions 
• Maintain audit and compliance documentation, including control evidence, standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk records, configuration baselines, and corrective action plans 
• Track audit findings, compliance gaps, remediation activities, and control effectiveness to ensure timely resolution and continued audit readiness 
• Ensure configuration, incident, change, service, and engineering data meet applicable audit, compliance, and governance requirements 
• Develop audit-readiness reports, compliance dashboards, engineering assessments, technical briefings, metrics, and executive-level recommendations for Government leadership 
• Support configuration management, technical baseline control, requirements traceability, engineering changes, and compliance workflows 
• Recommend improvements to system architectures, engineering processes, BMC3I Elite workflows, automation, documentation, and integration approaches to improve performance, interoperability, resiliency, compliance, and mission effectiveness 
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering teams and junior personnel while promoting disciplined systems engineering and compliance practices

Requirements

Skills and Experience

The Systems Engineer, SME must have:

• Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance with current Special Access Program (SAP) access required.
• 15+ years of relevant systems engineering experience, including experience supporting complex Department of Defense (DoD) systems, system-of-systems integration, mission architecture, requirements development, test and evaluation, and technical risk management
• Extensive experience supporting complex Department of Defense (DoD) systems engineering, system-of-systems integration, mission architecture, and technical program activities
• Demonstrated experience developing and managing system requirements, technical baselines, architectures, interfaces, and requirements traceability
• Experience identifying and mitigating technical risks, integration challenges, system dependencies, and performance gaps
• Demonstrated experience supporting technical reviews, test and evaluation activities, system integration, verification, and validation
• Experience with configuration management, engineering change processes, and technical baseline control
• Experience supporting audits, assessments, compliance activities, corrective action plans, and audit-readiness efforts
• Working knowledge of BMC3I Elite or comparable enterprise IT service management, governance, risk, and compliance platforms
• Knowledge of applicable DoD systems engineering, cybersecurity, IT service management (ITSM), risk management, and compliance processes
• Demonstrated ability to develop technical assessments, executive briefings, reports, metrics, and decision-quality recommendations for senior leadership
• Ability to work effectively with Government organizations, contractors, engineering teams, security personnel, and other technical stakeholders

Education and Certifications

The Systems Engineer, SME must meet the following:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer    Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field

Preferred

• Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related technical field
• Security certifications (Security+, CISSP associate-level knowledge)
• Project Management certifications (PMP, CAPM)

Security Clearance

 

Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.

 

Physical Requirements

 

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner, and that may include lifting up to thirty pounds, as necessary.

 

The final salary offered within the posted range will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, education, and other job-related factors.
