THE WORK
Lockheed Martin is seeking a talented level 2 Systems Engineer with an active Top Secret clearance to work from our Sunnyvale, CA location.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to design, implement, and support our network and Linux infrastructure. The incumbent will ensure high availability, security, and performance of core services, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive automation initiatives.
Core Responsibilities
• Network Operations Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers (Cisco, Juniper, etc.). Manage VLANs, VPNs, BGP/OSPF routing, and QoS policies. Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning for LAN/WAN segments.
• Linux Systems Administration Deploy, patch, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and Ubuntu servers (physical & virtual). Implement services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, LDAP/AD integration, web, database, and container platforms. Automate routine tasks using scripting (Bash, Python, PowerShell).
• Security & Compliance Apply hardening guidelines (CIS, STIG) and manage security patches. Conduct vulnerability assessments and remediate findings. Support audit readiness and documentation.
• Automate & Develop Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools. Integrate monitoring/alerting via PRTG, Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, or Splunk. Participate in CI/CD pipeline support for infrastructure changes.
• Incident Management Respond to alerts, perform root-cause analysis, and document post-incident reports. Participate in on-call rotation (follow-the-sun model).
• Collaboration Work closely with application developers, security, and project teams. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
This is an EMERGING PROFESSIONAL (level 2) ROLE where candidates typically require 1+ years of professional experience and a BS degree.

Basic Qualifications
• Minimum 1 years in network engineering and Linux system administration (combined).
• TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols (BGP/OSPF).
• Linux administration including one or more of the following:(RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).- Scripting (Bash/Python).- Virtualization (VMware, KVM) and containerization (Docker).
• CompTIA Sec+, or equivalent compliant cert.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation abilities.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Top Secret Clearance
Desired skills
• Advanced Certifications - CCNA/CCNP, Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
• Automation Expertise - Experience with Ansible, Terraform, Chef, or Puppet.
• Cloud Experience - Hands-on with AWS, Azure, or GCP networking services.
• Monitoring Tools - Proficiency with Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or ELK stack.
• Security Knowledge - Familiarity with firewall policies, IDS/IPS, and security frameworks (CIS, NIST).
Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
National Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $73,400 - $129,260. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
Premium Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $84,300 - $146,165. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
