The Work
The Systems Engineer will support the Missile Defense Agency's GMD Weapon System program by performing systems engineering activities across requirements, architecture, design, integration, verification, analysis, and technical coordination. The engineer will work with software, test, cybersecurity, integration, product teams, and customer stakeholders to help ensure system capabilities meet mission, technical, and program requirements.
Responsibilities may include:
• Support requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, verification planning, and traceability for GWS capabilities.
• Analyze system-level, subsystem-level, and interface requirements to support design, development, integration, and test activities.
• Develop, review, and maintain systems engineering artifacts such as requirements documentation, interface documentation, verification plans, technical analyses, trade studies, and design support products.
• Collaborate with software engineering, test engineering, cybersecurity, integration, and product teams to ensure requirements are understood, testable, and properly implemented.
• Support system architecture, functional analysis, use case development, operational concept development, and system behavior analysis.
• Assist with system-of-systems integration activities and coordination across internal teams, external stakeholders, and customer organizations.
• Support technical issue investigation, root-cause analysis, risk identification, and resolution planning.
• Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, sprint planning, backlog refinement, verification reviews, and customer-facing discussions.
• Support verification and validation activities by developing verification methods, reviewing test procedures, analyzing test results, and ensuring evidence satisfies requirements.
• Maintain requirements traceability using tools such as DOORS, Cameo, Jira, Confluence, or similar engineering tools.
• Communicate technical status, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to team leads, program leadership, and customer stakeholders.
• Contribute to process improvements, engineering best practices, and cross-discipline coordination to support program milestones.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• Professional systems engineering experience supporting requirements, architecture, design, integration, verification, validation, analysis, or technical coordination activities.
• Experience analyzing technical requirements and developing engineering products to support system development or verification.
• Familiarity with systems engineering lifecycle processes and system-of-systems engineering concepts.
• Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams, including software, test, integration, cybersecurity, or hardware teams.
• Experience using engineering tools such as DOORS, Cameo, Jira, Confluence, MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.
• Ability to work independently with general direction and support multiple technical tasks or priorities.
• U.S. government Active secret security clearance.
Desired skills
• Active Top Secret clearance or higher.
• Experience supporting missile defense, aerospace, defense, command and control, weapon systems, or other mission-critical systems.
• Experience with the GMD Weapon System, MDA programs, or system-of-systems integration environments.
• Experience with requirements decomposition, allocation, verification planning, and traceability using DOORS or similar tools.
• Familiarity with model-based systems engineering, Cameo, SysML, system architecture models, or digital engineering practices.
• Experience supporting formal verification, integration events, customer-witnessed test events, or technical reviews.
• Experience developing operational concepts, use cases, functional flows, interface documentation, or system behavior analyses.
• Experience with data analysis, algorithm analysis, modeling and simulation, MATLAB, Python, or other analytical tools.
• Knowledge of interface control documents, system architecture products, requirement specifications, and verification evidence.
• Experience supporting Agile teams, PI planning, sprint execution, backlog development, or product team coordination.
• Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines and communicate with program leadership and customer stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to identify technical risks, resolve complex issues, and support successful completion of program milestones.

Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
National Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $89,300 - $157,550. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
Premium Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $102,800 - $178,135. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
