Position Summary

The Systems Engineer implements engineering designs and runs proof-of-concept work in development and lab environments for the federal client, supporting controlled release management, change validation, and engineering deliverables across the test/development governance cadence. The role performs additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, supports modernization and automation, and contributes to Zero Trust enablement and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement engineering designs and build/run proof-of-concept (PoC) work in development and lab environments.
  • Support controlled release management, change validation, and production of engineering deliverables across the test/development governance cadence.
  • Perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems and attached devices - investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new hardware and software.
  • Provide direct support to day-to-day operations on hardware and operating systems, including evaluating system utilization, monitoring response time, and detecting/correcting operational problems.
  • Maintain network infrastructure standards, including communications protocols such as TCP/IP.
  • Support modernization and technology-refresh initiatives, automation between systems, and reduction of technical debt.
  • Contribute to Zero Trust engineering enablement - supporting identity, network, and security platform integration and remediation of identified gaps.
  • Provide Tier 4 technical analysis for complex incidents and support root-cause analysis for recurring or high-impact issues in coordination with Operations.
  • Support COOP/DR engineering, testing, and documentation; route engineering changes through ERB/CCB and track tasks/deliverables in ServiceNow.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field, or equivalent technical experience/certifications.
  • Experience: Three (3)+ years in systems/network engineering or infrastructure engineering, including hands-on configuration, installation, and testing of hardware and software.
  • Technical depth: Experience with hybrid Azure/on-premises (Hyper-V) environments, release/change validation, and lab/PoC work; solid command of TCP/IP and network infrastructure standards.
  • Process: Experience operating within ERB/CCB change governance using ServiceNow as the system of record.
  • Clearance & citizenship: Ability to obtain and maintain a background investigation commensurate with assigned duties; Must hold, at time of award, and be able to maintain a Secret clearance for classified system support. U.S. citizenship is required for this project by the client. All personnel must satisfy client's suitability and background-investigation requirements before receiving physical or logical access to DFC facilities or systems.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Azure (e.g., AZ-104/AZ-305) certification; CompTIA Security+.
  • ITIL v4 Foundation certification.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tooling.
  • Prior federal engineering-services or modernization experience.

Work Location
