Job Description

Summary

CAE Defense & Security is seeking a Simulator System Architect to support our rotary aircraft simulator product line. The System Architect is responsible for designing, integrating, and overseeing the endtoend architecture of highfidelity flight and maintenance training systems. They translate mission and training requirements into technical specifications, selecting and configuring hardware, software, and networking components to meet performance, safety, cyber security and certification standards. The role involves collaborating with software developers, hardware engineers, cyber security and certification authorities to ensure seamless integration of flight dynamics, avionics, graphics, and user interfaces, while also managing scalability, maintainability, and cost. Strong knowledge of realtime systems, simulation theory, and industry standards is essential, along with experience in system modeling, performance tuning, and crossdisciplinary project leadership.

  • Translates mission/training requirements into a coherent, scalable architecture that balances performance, safety, and cost.

  • Guides overall design decisions and ensure alignment with business goals.

  • Leads the technical solution activities as the overall design authority during capture and program execution phases

  • Ensures the system architecture adheres to security, interoperability, and performance standards, plus cost targets

  • Selects the appropriate technologies and tools that best meet system requirements, considering IRAD, future scalability, sustainability, and cost

  • Analyzes the system to ensure that it will meet the stated performance requirements (e.g. flight performance, stability, weight, power, timing, human factors, throughput, etc.)

  • Provides system-level decision making regarding trade-offs (e.g. cost vs performance)

  • Creates the product line roadmap in compliance with the technology roadmap, reference architectures and functional product roadmaps

  • Has awareness and helps coordinate new technology investment and insertion into product line based on customer needs

  • Defines how the training system can be structured to best comply with the Customer Requirements, including the extent of re-use of existing components and equipment.

  • Identifies technical risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure simulator reliability and operator safety.

  • Works closely with program, product and functional management to guide technical direction and ensure that the training system meets schedule and cost requirements.

  • Stays current with emerging simulation technologies, industry standards, and best practices; recommend and implement process improvements.

  • Represents CAE USA at industry technical forums and customer oral presentations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer or Computer Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in simulation, avionics, or realtime systems engineering. 3+ years in a leadership or architect role.

  • Flightdynamics and avionics modeling experience

  • Motion and control loading system experience

  • Knowledge of graphics pipelines (OpenGL/DirectX/Vulkan) and rendering engines

  • Experience with distributed simulation interoperability standards (DIS, HLA, GSI)

  • System modeling (SysML, UML) experience

  • Applied performance profiling and optimization techniques

  • Familiarity with aircraft communication standards (UDP/TCP, MILSTD1553, ARINC)

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Preferred Skills

  • Masters degree in Systems Engineering or related technical field

  • Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or equivalent (e.g., INCOSE)

  • Mentoring and team leadership experience

  • End to end System Design experience in a Modeling tool: SysML, Cameo Enterprise Architecture

  • Experience with various rotary wing aircraft including MH-60R, UH-60, CH-47, V-22, FLRAA

  • Experience designing high-fidelity, motion based and non-motion total training solutions

Security Responsibilities

Mustcomplywithall company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Work Environment

  • Duties performed in an office environment and manufacturing facility.

  • Must be able to work overtime on andoff-shiftsasrequired.

  • The employee is on call 24x7 for the resolution of problems and issues.
