Job Description:

The Systems Analyst / Database Support Specialist provides advanced technical support for mission-critical federal applications and databases. This position is responsible for Tier 2 request fulfillment, data validation, scripting, business process improvement, production support, and systems analysis activities. The incumbent serves as a key technical resource supporting operational efficiency, data integrity, and application performance while working closely with stakeholders, developers, and support teams to resolve issues and implement solutions.

The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, experience supporting enterprise applications and relational databases, and the ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.

Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
  • This position requires working onsite in Alexandria, VA, 5 days per week

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience** in systems analysis, application support, database support, business process improvement, or related information technology disciplines.
  • Experience providing Tier 2 or higher technical support in a production environment.
  • Experience performing data validation, analysis, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Experience writing and executing SQL queries and scripts.
  • Experience gathering, documenting, and analyzing business and technical requirements.
  • Experience supporting process improvement or business process reengineering initiatives.
  • Strong SQL and relational database experience, preferably Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
  • Experience with ticketing and workflow management systems such as ServiceNow.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing and maintaining applications in ColdFusion, and/or modernizing legacy ColdFusion applications, would be a strong plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe ColdFusion
  • Experience with CFML, including components (CFCs), ORM, scheduled tasks, and REST services
  • Solid understanding of SQL and experience with databases such as Oracle, SQL Server
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern JS frameworks (optional but valuable)
  • Experience with API development
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control tools
  • Understanding of server environments, deployments, and troubleshooting (Windows/IIS)

Responsibilities

Tier 2 Request Fulfillment:
  • Provide Tier 2 application and database support for enterprise systems.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex application, system, and data-related issues.
  • Investigate production incidents and perform root cause analysis.
  • Respond to customer requests and service tickets in accordance with established service levels.
  • Escalate issues as appropriate and coordinate resolution with technical teams.
  • Maintain documentation of support activities, issue resolution, and system procedures.

Systems Analysis:
  • Analyze business and technical requirements to identify system enhancements and operational improvements.
  • Evaluate existing processes, workflows, and applications to recommend effective solutions.
  • Develop functional requirements, process documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with developers and stakeholders throughout the system development lifecycle.

Data Validation and Database Support:
  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance activities.
  • Execute SQL queries and scripts to analyze, update, and maintain production data.
  • Research and resolve data integrity issues.
  • Support reporting, auditing, and data management activities.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established standards.

Scripting and Automation:
  • Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine operational and data management processes.
  • Support data migration, transformation, and integration efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and process optimization.

Business Process Improvement:

  • Analyze existing business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support business process reengineering initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.
  • Work with stakeholders to document business requirements and recommend process enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and process documentation.

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and support staff.
  • Participate in testing, implementation, and deployment activities.
