Description

This position is responsible for overseeing the administration of local area networks, campus-wide server-based (web, email, enterprise applications) systems, data storage, virtualization, backup and recovery processes. Additional responsibilities include: integrity and security of all server and appliance operating systems; designing and implementing server redundancy, survivability, protection, backup, and recovery systems; verifying continuing need for server hardware and software support agreements; determining the benefit versus risk of new software and hardware implementations; and conducting technical reviews of all special projects interfacing with or having a potential impact on university server-based applications. The salary range for this position is $79,000 to $82,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Systems Administrator

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in systems administration, endpoint engineering, infrastructure support, or related technical operations.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows and MacOS operating environments in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience administering endpoing management and systems administration technologies.
  • Experience supporting virtualization technologies, cloud services, or enterprise infrastructure preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and desktop operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, and enterprise authentication services.
  • Experience with endpoint management platforms such as Microsoft Intune, JAMF, MECM/SCCM, or equivalent technologies.
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
  • Knowledge of software deployment, patch management, operating system imaging, and endpoint security practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple technology platforms.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration and cloud-integrated services preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.


Senior Systems Administrator

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant technical certifications may be considered in lieu of some educational requirements.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration, enterprise infrastructure, endpoint engineering, virtualization, or related technical operations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise technology initiatives and complex infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting cloud and hybrid technology environments.
  • Experience mentoring technical staff and serving as a senior escalation resource preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise systems administration, endpoint management, virtualization, automation, and cloud services.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, identity management, and authentication technologies.
  • Experience with scripting and automation technologies such as PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent tools.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, endpoint security controls, vulnerability remediation, and compliance standards.
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning, business continuity initiatives, and infrastructure modernization projects.
  • Ability to design, implement, and support enterprise technology solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong leadership, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to technical staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and documentation skills.


Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent.
  • Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) or JAMF certifications.
  • VMware, Citrix, CompTIA Server+, Security+, or equivalent industry certifications.
