Job DescriptionSeeker Market Expansion Software Section LeadJoin the Seeker Market Expansion Software Team within our Precision Strike & Sensing Solutions (PGSS) business. This is a leadership opportunity to build and guide a team critical to BAE Systems' growth over the next decade. We are currently in a high-impact phase, building and testing prototypes while forming requirements and interfaces. The architectural roadmap is still open, and we need a visionary leader to help shape the critical design decisions that will define the success of this program for years to come.
The ChallengeAs Section Lead, you will lead a team of software engineers responsible for all phases of software development to meet customer and internal requirements. You will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, hiring, and support in the training of new engineers in this critical area. You will drive technical excellence within the team, ensuring the development of complex embedded systems utilizing Xilinx System-on-Chip (SoC) FPGAs and System-on-a-Module (SOM) architectures leveraging ARM processors.
Roles and Responsibilities:- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
- Drive technical excellence, leading a team through the full software development lifecycle from initial design and coding to integration and verification on hardware.
- Foster a culture of technical growth and mentorship within the team, ensuring opportunities for skill development and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional peers and program leadership to streamline technical processes, optimize resource allocation, and ensure alignment with program objectives.
- Perform staff management including performance review preparation/delivery, coaching/mentoring, career development, salary planning, reward/recognition, and performance management as needed.
- Identify the necessary staff, facilities, and equipment needed for successful project execution within the team.
- Ensure development teams have properly planned, set up project schedules, identified, hired and trained staff for project execution, and provide oversight that the team executes to the established schedule and cost objectives.
- Support pursuit activities, including bids and proposals.
Required Skills and Education- Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience
- Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
- 4+ years of experience leading an embedded software development team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with Discipline Leads, Section Leads, Program Engineering Managers and Program Managers within the organization.
- Experience in leading successful project execution.
- Experience in performance review and career development planning for individual contributors.
Preferred Skills and Education- Experience with RTOS (VxWorks, FreeRTOS) or Bare Metal development.
- Experience with Agile workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and static code analysis tools.
- Knowledge of signal processing or guidance and control systems.
- Proficiency in C/C++ with an expert-level understanding of memory management, data structures, and algorithms
- Experience configuring and deploying embedded operating systems
