Full Job Description
The Role

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience leading Active Directory cleanup and restructuring, with strong expertise in Windows Server across on-premises and Azure. This role requires enforcing standards, driving remediation, and operating effectively in M&A-driven environments while working independently and collaborating across teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Active Directory & Identity Ownership
    • Own AD architecture, health, and strategy across multiple domains
    • Lead AD cleanup/restructuring (OU design, GPOs, lifecycle)
    • Manage identity and access (service accounts, groups, Entra ID governance)
    • Enforce standards for naming, access, group design, and least-privilege
  • Server & Infrastructure Management
    • Build, administer, and maintain Windows Server environments (on-prem and Azure)
    • Manage physical/virtual infrastructure (VMware, Hyper-V, Azure, Scale) and lifecycle and lifecycle
    • Support modernization efforts, including migration to hybrid/cloud environments
  • Patching, Configuration & Operations
    • Own server patching (NinjaOne); partner with IT Operations team on endpoint patching (Intune)
    • Maintain consistent configuration management (GPOs, baselines, policies) across environments
    • Develop PowerShell automation to improve efficiency and consistency
  • Backup & Resilience
    • Own backup strategy and systems; ensure regular recovery testing for disaster recovery readiness
  • Security & Remediation
    • Lead remediation of findings from audits, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests
    • Implement and maintain infrastructure security and hardening standards
    • Administer and maintain security platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike, Defender) in coordination with eSentire (SOC-as-a-Service)
  • Collaboration
    • Partner across IT Infrastructure, Operations, Applications, and Development teams
    • Work with business stakeholders to understand needs and communicate impacts
    • Operate independently while aligning with IT priorities and standards


Requirements and Skills:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Windows infrastructure and Active Directory environments
  • Proven experience owning and redesigning Active Directory environments (not just supporting them)
  • Demonstrated success in:
    • Active Directory cleanup, consolidation, or restructuring initiatives
    • GPO design and standardization at scale
    • Managing multi-domain and/or M&A-driven environments
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Active Directory (DNS, GPO, replication, trusts)
    • Identity & Access Management principles
    • PowerShell automation
  • Experience with:
    • Leading security remediation efforts from audits or penetration tests
    • Hybrid identity (Entra ID / Azure AD Connect) and hybrid-joined environments
    • Infrastructure patching and configuration management
    • Backup and disaster recovery planning and validation
  • Core competencies:
    • Ability to manage projects and priorities independently without constant supervision
    • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, VLANs, segmentation)
    • Able to collaborate effectively within a distributed IT team
