Role description
System-Level Engineering
Lead I - Engineering Design
UST is searching for a System-Level Engineering with strong fundamentals in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and gas flow systems.
The opportunity:
• Lead system-level design, analysis, and troubleshooting of etching and chemical/gas delivery systems across multiple business units
• Identify root causes of complex field issues such as flow instability, contamination, and pressure transients
• Drive system-level corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
• Develop and validate system-level models including analytical, CFD, and digital twin approaches to predict flow, thermal, and contamination behavior
• Define system architecture requirements and drive alignment across component suppliers and internal teams
• Define, coordinate, and execute system-level and component-level test plans on COE lab test stands
• Analyze test data and generate detailed engineering reports to support qualification, reliability, and supplier resolution
• Drive correlation between lab testing, simulation models, and field performance
• Design and modify mechanical layouts, gas panel schematics, and subsystem architectures for new and existing platforms
• Develop specifications for critical flow control components including MFCs, FRCs, MFVs, valves, and regulators
• Support design for reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability across chemical delivery subsystems
• Drive development and deployment of AI-based tools for troubleshooting, knowledge management, and component selection
• Partner with software and data teams to structure engineering knowledge for AI applications including knowledge agents and workflow automation
• Identify opportunities to leverage AI and digital twin technology to reduce field escalations and accelerate root-cause analysis
• Act as COE technical interface to Business Units, Systems COE, and suppliers
• Lead system-level engineering discussions and drive resolution of cross-functional issues
• Build consensus across stakeholders and align on roadmap priorities
• Define and manage mechanical and functional specifications for key suppliers
• Support supplier qualification, reliability activities, and change control processes including ECR, SPS, and SNF
• Evaluate new technologies and drive roadmap alignment for next-generation flow control solutions
• Coach colleagues with less experience and may lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements
This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.
What you need:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 5-7 years of experience in mechanical and system engineering development
• Proven experience with system-level problem solving beyond component-level design
• Hands-on experience with lab testing, data analysis, and engineering report generation
• Proficiency in CAD tools and engineering documentation including GD&T, drawings, and specifications
• Experience in semiconductor equipment, chemical delivery systems, or gas handling systems
• Knowledge of flow control devices including MFCs, FRCs, valves, regulators, and pressure/flow interactions
• Experience with system modeling tools such as CFD, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent
• Familiarity with AI/ML applications in engineering including data analysis, automation, and knowledge systems
• Experience working across cross-functional teams and multiple business units
• Exposure to digital twin, system simulation, or model-based engineering approaches
• Complex problem-solving skills with ability to take new perspectives on existing solutions
• Strong analytical capabilities and sound judgment based on multiple information sources
• Ability to explain difficult or sensitive information clearly and work to build consensus
• Leadership capabilities and resourcefulness in supporting colleagues with less experience
• Experience with design for reliability (DfR), manufacturability (DfM), and serviceability (DfS)
