Full Job Description
What You Will Do:

At Independent Software, as a Systems Engineer Level 3, you will support the full engineering lifecycle of mission systems from integration and testing through deployment and operational support. You will work with a small, mission-focused team to integrate hardware, software, networking, and telecommunications infrastructure while interacting regularly with users and customers.

This is a hands-on engineering position that includes system deployments, server hardware, network equipment, fiber and CAT-5/6 cabling, testing, troubleshooting, and Quality Assurance activities to ensure systems are reliable, maintainable, and ready for mission use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support systems throughout the engineering lifecycle from integration and testing through deployment
  • Integrate, install, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and decommission system hardware and software
  • Install, relocate, and maintain fiber and CAT-5/6 cabling, cross-connections, equipment cabinets, and network equipment
  • Terminate CAT-5/6 and fiber-optic cabling
  • Test and troubleshoot fiber using optical power meters, OTDRs, and related test equipment
  • Monitor and troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues
  • Perform Quality Assurance evaluations of system builds for quality, reliability, maintainability, and safety
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and replace components in Dell servers
  • Support networking and infrastructure hardware, including Dell, Arista, and Raritan equipment
  • Collaborate with users, customers, and engineering team members during system integration and deployment

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience with system hardware/software integration and system deployments
  • Hands-on experience installing and supporting network and telecommunications equipment
  • Experience installing and terminating CAT-5/6 and fiber-optic cabling
  • Experience using fiber-optic test equipment, including optical power meters and OTDRs
  • Strong hardware, software, and network troubleshooting skills
  • Experience installing, testing, maintaining, and decommissioning systems
  • Experience performing Quality Assurance evaluations of system builds
  • Experience repairing or replacing components in Dell servers
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with customers and technical teams

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Dell, Arista, and Raritan hardware
  • Experience supporting system build and deployment activities in mission-focused environments

Education and Experience:

Candidates must meet one of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in a qualified Engineering Field or related discipline plus six (6) years of Systems Engineering experience; OR
  • High School Diploma or GED plus ten (10) years of general Systems Engineering experience; OR
  • Master's degree in a qualified Engineering Field or related discipline plus four (4) years of Systems Engineering experience; OR
  • PhD in a qualified Engineering Field or related discipline plus two (2) years of Systems Engineering experience.


Qualified or related disciplines include Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a comparable technical field.

Clearance Requirement:
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
