Position: System Director of Biomedical Engineering
Reports To: System CEO
Location: Corporate Office - Johns Creek, Georgia

Position Overview
The System Director of Biomedical Engineering provides strategic and operational
leadership for Tenor Health Foundation's biomedical engineering program across all
hospitals, ambulatory facilities, and physician practices. This leader is responsible for
ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective management of medical equipment
throughout the system while standardizing biomedical operations, supporting acquisitions,
reducing vendor costs and improving equipment lifecycle management. The Director
partners closely with Clinical Engineering, Information Technology, Clinical Operations,
Supply Chain, Facilities, and executive leadership to ensure biomedical services support
exceptional patient care and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and lead the system biomedical engineering strategy across all Tenor
Health facilities.
• Standardize biomedical engineering operations, policies, procedures, and
performance metrics across all markets.
• Direct all preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, calibration, and regulatory
compliance activities for medical equipment.
• Develop and prioritize system-wide capital replacement plans, balancing patient
safety, regulatory requirements, operational needs, and financial objectives across
multiple hospitals and markets.
• Lead biomedical integration efforts for newly acquired hospitals and physician
practices, including equipment inventories, assessments, transition planning, and
standardization of biomedical operations.
• Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs through vendor consolidation,
service contract optimization, equipment standardization, and increased in-house
repair capabilities.
• Partner with Supply Chain on equipment evaluations, purchasing decisions, and
system standardization initiatives.
• Collaborate with Information Technology to support connected medical devices,
cybersecurity initiatives, and medical device integration with enterprise clinical
systems and electronic medical records.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations,
including Department of Health (DOH) requirements across multiple states, CMS,
The Joint Commission, FDA, OSHA, NFPA, and other healthcare accreditation
standards.
• Develop system policies for medical equipment management, recalls, incident
investigations, equipment utilization, and lifecycle management.
• Establish key performance indicators and provide executive reporting on equipment
uptime, service levels, capital utilization, operating costs, regulatory compliance,
and operational performance.
• Lead, develop, and mentor biomedical engineering leaders and technicians across
the organization.
• Participate in disaster preparedness, emergency response planning, and business
continuity initiatives.
• Support financial turnaround initiatives through disciplined asset management,
strategic capital planning, and measurable return on investment.

Requirements

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Engineering, Healthcare Technology
Management, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive biomedical engineering leadership experience
within a multi-hospital healthcare system.
• Experience leading system biomedical operations across multiple facilities and
geographic markets.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Department of Health (DOH) regulations and
healthcare compliance requirements across multiple states.
• Strong knowledge of CMS, The Joint Commission, FDA, OSHA, NFPA, and other
healthcare accreditation standards.
• Experience supporting hospital acquisitions, Transition Services Agreements (TSAs),
and operational integration activities.
• Proven experience developing and prioritizing system capital replacement plans
and allocating capital investments across multiple facilities based on clinical need,
regulatory requirements, operational risk, and organizational priorities.
• Demonstrated success reducing biomedical operating costs through vendor
negotiations, equipment standardization, service contract optimization, and
operational efficiencies.
• Experience managing capital planning, equipment lifecycle management, and
large-scale biomedical projects.
• Knowledge of medical device cybersecurity and integration with clinical systems
and electronic medical record platforms.
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing biomedical operating and
capital budgets, demonstrating measurable return on investment, and supporting
enterprise financial turnaround initiatives.
• Excellent leadership, communication, project management, relationship-building,
and change management skills.
Physical Requirements
• Primarily performs sedentary work in an office environment with frequent use of
computers and standard office equipment.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through
virtual meeting platforms.
• Frequently required to walk through hospitals, clinical departments, mechanical
spaces, and construction or renovation areas to evaluate equipment, projects, and
operational needs.
• The ability to travel by automobile and commercial airline, including overnight travel,
is required. Approximately 40% travel is expected; however, travel may exceed 40%
based on organizational priorities, acquisitions, regulatory activities, major capital
projects, emergency operational needs, or other business requirements.
