BRMi is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator / Infrastructure Support Specialist to provide operational, maintenance, and engineering support for NIH enterprise infrastructure environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing server infrastructure, operating systems, storage platforms, virtualization technologies, cloud services, and enterprise systems that support mission-critical research and business operations.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in systems administration, infrastructure support, troubleshooting, automation, and performance optimization within complex federal IT environments.

Salary: $95K-$115K
Work Location: Primary place of performance is Bethesda, Maryland, supporting NIH facilities and approved remote work locations in accordance with Government policies.
Responsibilities
Systems Administration
- Install, configure, maintain, and support Windows and Linux server environments.
- Perform operating system upgrades, patch management, and system hardening activities.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve server, application, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Maintain system documentation, configurations, and operational procedures.
Infrastructure Operations
- Support enterprise infrastructure including servers, storage, virtualization, backup, and recovery solutions.
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related enterprise services.
- Support VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms.
- Monitor infrastructure health and proactively address performance concerns.
- Coordinate infrastructure maintenance activities and planned outages.
Cloud & Modernization Support
- Support cloud-based infrastructure environments including Microsoft Azure and AWS.
- Assist with cloud migrations and modernization initiatives.
- Implement infrastructure best practices for security, performance, and reliability.
- Support hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain security configurations and access controls.
- Support vulnerability remediation and system hardening activities.
- Assist with audits, security assessments, and compliance reviews.
- Ensure systems comply with NIH and federal security requirements.
- Support continuous monitoring and operational security initiatives.
Incident & Problem Management
- Respond to infrastructure incidents and service interruptions.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective actions.
- Participate in on-call support rotations as required.
- Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to resolve complex issues.
Documentation & Reporting
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and system diagrams.
- Provide status updates and operational reports.
- Document infrastructure changes and configuration updates.
- Support knowledge management and process improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- 5–8 years of experience administering enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Experience supporting Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
- Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise identity services.
- Experience supporting virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Experience with enterprise storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation.
- Candidates must possess the following certifications:
- Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) or equivalent Microsoft certification
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent virtualization certification
- CompTIA Security+
- ITIL Foundation
- Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting NIH, HHS, or other federal civilian agencies.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience supporting enterprise monitoring tools and automation platforms.
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or other scripting languages.
- Experience supporting biomedical research, scientific computing, or healthcare IT environments.
- Familiarity with NIST, FISMA, and federal cybersecurity requirements.
