Compensation: $70,000 - $110,000 / year
DescriptionKey Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and rain event-triggered inspections of active construction sites in accordance with SWPPP requirements
- Evaluate the installation, maintenance, and effectiveness of erosion and sediment controls (ESCs) including silt fences, inlet protection, stabilized construction entrances, sediment basins, and more
- Document inspection findings with detailed written reports, photographs, and corrective action recommendations
- Communicate deficiencies to contractors and site managers and follow up to confirm corrective actions are implemented
- Maintain accurate inspection logs and records in compliance with NJPDES / SPDES General Permit conditions
- Coordinate with project engineers and clients to address recurring compliance issues
- Assist with SWPPP preparation, updates, and amendments as needed
- Stay current with changes to NJDEP and NYSDEC stormwater regulations and permit requirements
Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseRequired- Valid CISEC (Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control) or CPESC (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control) certification - or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Familiarity with NJ SWPPP requirements under the NJPDES Construction General Permit and/or NY SPDES GP
- Ability to perform field inspections in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites
- Strong written communication skills for inspection reports and corrective action documentation
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification (required prior to independent site access)
- Proficiency with mobile inspection tools, digital reporting, and Microsoft Office
Preferred- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field
- 1+ years of field experience conducting SWPPP or stormwater inspections
- Experience with NJDEP and/or NYSDEC regulatory programs and online reporting portals
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or GIS tools for site plan review
- QSP (Qualified SWPPP Practitioner) or QSD (Qualified SWPPP Developer) designation a plus
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (preferred for full-time and senior candidates)
