Full Job Description
Position Summary:

Provides executive leadership for the Claims division, establishing strategic direction, operational excellence, and financial performance objectives that support organizational goals and stakeholder outcomes.

Serves as a member of the executive leadership team and partners across the organization to align claims strategies, technology enablement, regulatory compliance, and talent development initiatives with enterprise priorities. Leads the continuous improvement of claims operations to enhance injured worker and employer outcomes, strengthen organizational capabilities, and support long-term business success.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contributes to the achievement of established organizational goals and objectives; adheres to organizational policies, procedures, quality and safety standards, and consistently exhibits Chesapeake's Values and Behaviors.
  • Serves as a member of the executive leadership team, contributing to enterprise strategy, organizational performance, and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Establishes and executes the strategic vision for Claims operations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, financial goals, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Provides executive leadership and oversight for all claims functions, including claims administration, medical management, litigation strategy, reserving practices, settlement strategies, and operational performance.
  • Leads and develops a high-performing claims leadership team through effective selection, coaching, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional service to injured workers, employers, and business partners.
  • Guides the development and implementation of claims strategies, policies, procedures, and technology solutions that support operational excellence and improved business outcomes.
  • Oversees claims performance, financial results, and operational effectiveness, ensuring achievement of key performance indicators and organizational objectives.
  • Partners with underwriting, actuarial, safety services, finance, technology, and other business leaders to improve enterprise outcomes and support strategic decision-making.
  • Leads data-driven technology enablement initiatives that improve claims effectiveness, operational efficiency, and stakeholder experience.
  • Establishes and monitors claims performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to support transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational policies.
  • Serves as the executive liaison with regulatory agencies, auditors, and external stakeholders regarding claims operations and compliance matters.
  • Maintains governance frameworks that support risk management, operational integrity, and audit readiness.
  • Evaluates organizational capabilities, processes, and structures to ensure scalability, efficiency, and alignment with business needs.
  • Identifies and implements innovative claims management practices that improve outcomes while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Participates in enterprise initiatives, strategic projects, and organizational transformation efforts as assigned.
  • Other duties and project work as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of workers' compensation claims operations, medical management, litigation strategy, reserving practices, and claims administration.
  • Strong strategic planning and business leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, complex operational organizations and achieve measurable business outcomes.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, loss ratios, reserving philosophies, and cost containment initiatives.
  • Knowledge of claims-related regulatory requirements, governance practices, and risk management principles.
  • Ability to leverage data, analytics, and performance metrics to drive operational excellence and strategic decision-making.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and talent development skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence executive leadership, Board members, regulators, and external partners.
  • Ability to lead organizational change, transformation initiatives, and technology modernization efforts.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive leadership experience within claims, insurance operations, risk management, or related disciplines.
  • Significant executive or senior leadership experience leading large-scale claims or insurance operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational strategy, operational performance, financial outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional business leaders to achieve enterprise objectives.
  • Effectively utilizes technologies and tools, including Microsoft 365 and role-specific platforms, to support productivity and organizational effectiveness.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field.
  • Professional insurance designations or industry certifications.
  • Experience leading enterprise transformation, digital enablement, or process modernization initiatives.
  • Experience implementing data analytics, performance measurement, or governance frameworks.
