Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARYThe
Sustaining Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading sustaining engineering activities within Vertiv's busbar division while supporting the growth and development of a small team. This role combines technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on problem solving to improve product quality, manufacturability, and operational performance. The ideal candidate brings strong engineering fundamentals, a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to guide teams through complex technical challenges in an engineered-to-order environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead sustaining engineering activities, including prioritization of technical issues, design updates, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and development support for a team of approximately 2 to 4 engineers.
- Partner with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations teams to resolve design-related production issues and drive timely execution.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions that improve product quality, manufacturability, and operational readiness.
- Oversee engineering change activities, including bill of material updates, drawing revisions, and release accuracy.
- Apply strong knowledge of manufacturing processes to support design for manufacturability improvements and reduce recurring issues.
- Support new product introduction activities to help ensure smooth transition into production and long-term sustaining ownership.
- Participate in the interview and selection process for engineering talent and help onboard new team members.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the team.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience in product design, sustaining engineering, manufacturing support, or a related engineering function preferred
- Strong experience in 3D modeling and 2D drafting
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and experience working with cross-functional teams
- Experience leading technical problem solving and driving issues to resolution
- Experience with design for manufacturability, root cause analysis, and engineering change processes
- Experience working with bills of material, drawing revisions, and product lifecycle management systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, or guide other engineers through formal or informal technical leadership
- Experience with engineered-to-order products, sheet metal, copper design, or similarly complex manufacturing environments preferred
