Sustaining Engineer II

Position Summary: The Sustaining Engineer II is responsible for maintaining and improving existing firearm products to ensure consistent quality, performance, and on-time delivery. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving production and functional issues at assembly and range, implementing design improvements, and coordinating changes with cross-functional teams such as Quality, Operations, and R&D. This position will also conduct root cause analysis, support value engineering efforts, and assist in optimizing assembly processes for efficiency. Additionally, they document and manage engineering changes using CAD software and PLM systems, ensuring products meet customer and engineering requirements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting and identification of root cause for production issues of all firearms products.
  • Implement product improvements, modifications, and design enhancements through drawing and model changes to existing product using SOLIDWORKS and Agile PLM system.
  • Support the transition of new products from Research and Development to production.
  • Use project management techniques to meet project timelines.
  • Generate clearly defined product drawings using GD&T and stackup analysis to ensure interchangeable parts and conformance to product performance requirements. Implement with SIG Agile product life cycle database.
  • Execute value engineering efforts.
  • Work closely with R&D, Quality Assurance, and Operations teams to coordinate and communicate changes and improvements. Support the teams in ensuring that designs are feasible and optimized for manufacturing.
  • Review and disposition of non-conforming materials for production. Lead coordination with operations and manufacturing regarding rework processes as needed.
  • Participate in 5S Workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline with 3-6 years of previous experience.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) ASME Y14.5M-2009.
  • Must be proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as SOLIDWORKS. Basic working knowledge of Monday.com. Experience in using data analysis programs.
  • Enrolled in certification program for Shainin Red X and/or Six Sigma.
  • Strong ability to resolve complex mechanical issues in a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing capabilities of machined, injection molded, MIM (Metal Injection Molded), and stamped components.
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Experience in documenting and clearly presenting technical information to non-technical personnel.


Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
