Reports to: Sr. VP West Coast Operations
Status: ExemptScope: Responsible for the manager to lead efforts in minimizing our environmental impact, advancing sustainable operations, and creating safe working conditions for all.
Works closely with all vendors, managers, and employees to address the organization's approach to environmental & safety responsibility with the goal of minimizing the company's environmental impact and monitoring compliance with government regulations, laws, and mandates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Coordinates sustainability programs in relation to green initiatives such as emissions standards, energy efficiency, water reduction, waste disposal management, and alternative transportation resolutions.
- Develops and enhances recycling programs based on Key Performance Indicators and ensures all local, state, and federal regulations are adhered to.
- Conducts research on the latest zero-emission equipment available and technology in the market, its pricing, supplier information, and certifications.
- Works closely with the Safety and Security and Facility Department management team regarding providing guidance and support relating to storm water compliance and innovative solutions for compliance.
- Ensure safety regulations and any new electric and hydrogen/fuel/ infrastructure installations comply.
- Ensures all government, federal, state, and local environmental grant awards are completed in accordance with contractual obligations to ensure ETS is awarded the full grant awards.
- Identifies emerging technologies and regulatory developments that may impact the maritime industry's transition to zero-emission operations.
- Assesses and analyzes company policies and processes to identify areas in and processes to which improvements can be made in accordance with the organization's commitment to environmental regulations.
- Drafts and implements sustainable organizational policies that address environmental concerns.
- Evaluates efficacy of sustainability programs; recommends and implements improvements, as necessary.
- Partners with the Sustainability Manager, documentation required for project funding for various environmental initiatives, including proposals and grant applications.
- Research and provide input to consultants in support of developing Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Prepare and submit recommendations to Taipei supporting RFP development and evaluation.
- Assist in managing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting databases for ETS Los Angeles, Oakland, and Tacoma terminals, and submit the final annual report to Taipei.
- Assist in the research of new Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for zero-emission Cargo Handling Equipment (CHE), including detailed analyses of equipment costs, specifications, and components.
- Identify and submit new grant opportunities, with a particular focus on Tacoma initiatives.
- Prepare and submit weekly CHE Master Schedule updates to Taipei.
- Provide significant support in the project management of the $238M ETS-POLA Clean Ports Grant and the $66M ETS-PoO Clean Ports Grant. Responsibilities include oversight of:
- Design and Engineering Services
- Construction Bid Packages
- Engineering Support during construction
- Construction Management
- Review and processing of hundreds of project invoices
- Assist in the management of the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) for both the Los Angeles and Oakland terminals, including:
- Grant management and reporting
- Infrastructure and equipment planning
- Zero-emission CHE deployment
- Charging and electrical infrastructure development
- Workforce development
- Stakeholder engagement
- Public engagement
- Support project management activities for existing ETS grants, including RTG Hybridization, TCEP, CORE, and VW programs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements:- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Drafts and prepares reports, presentations, and proposals.
- Thorough and current knowledge of environmental practices and applicable laws and regulations.
- Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent organizational skills and diligence.
- Ability to create, interpret, and execute a budget.
- Presentation skills required to deliver proposals to varying groups of individuals.
- Meticulous, accurate, and dependable.
- Excellent ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Experience administering clean off-road equipment projects:
- Forklifts
- Harbor cranes
- Container handling equipment
- Strong knowledge of marine industry equipment.
- Minimum four years of experience leading projects in the clean transportation industry with experience working in maritime industry and preferred zero-emission technologies.
- Willingness to travel to meet with industry stakeholders and attend industry conferences.
Education/Training/Experience:- Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, marine transportation, business administration, or a related field of study
- Professional certification preferred.
- 5 - 6+ years of corporate, business and management experience required.
Physical Requirements:- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to navigate a variety of settings as needed to identify environmental sustainability issues and solutions.
