Job Details:

Purpose:

In collaboration with supervising physicians, provides for the expansion of individualized healthcare services by diagnosing and treating adult cardiovascular and thoracic conditions.

Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Operating Room based Physician Assistants will primarily work assisting in the cardiovascular operating room.
  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs health assessments, screening, and patient care.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment options and community resources.
  • Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.Participates in orientation and education of staff and students.
  • Other related functions as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • A board-certified Physician Assistant in good standing and credentialed by the Texas Medical Board with Prescriptive Authority and minimum 1 year experience in cardiothoracic surgical first assisting with proficiency in endoscopic and open conduit harvest.
  • Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various situations.
  • Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providers as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Salary Range:

$140,000+ depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
