Full Job Description
Diamond Foundry is seeking a skilled Technician to join our Surface Finishing team in Fremont, CA. As a surface finishing technician in the Research and Development group, you will be joining a small group focused on Quality, Efficiency & Cost in regard to Single Crystal Diamond surface finishing development. This position supports the Engineering effort through the preparation of and operation of surface finishing equipment and related metrology tools.

Responsibilities

  • Sample Preparation & Processing: Set up, operate, clean, and maintain specialized lapping, grinding, dry etching, and polishing equipment, including the manual preparation of required slurries.
  • Material Processing: Perform precision preparation and cleaning of samples through expert mounting, lapping, grinding, dry etching, and polishing workflows.
  • Engineering & Inspection Support: Assist the engineering team with various non-standard tests, specialized inspections, and ad-hoc laboratory procedures as required.
  • Equipment & Lab Maintenance: Conduct minor maintenance, troubleshooting, and routine upkeep of laboratory and machine shop equipment, tools, and workspaces.
  • Project Management & Communication: Maintain accurate system documentation and proactively update stakeholders on backlog status, project timelines, and operational progress.


Requirements

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical or engineering field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working directly in a professional lapping, grinding, and/or polishing environment.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Proven familiarity with industrial mechanical lapping and polishing equipment from industry-standard brands (e.g., LapMaster, Ravasum, Applied Materials, Engis).
  • Technical Inspection Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of advanced surface measurement and technical inspection techniques.
  • Physical & Operational Capability: Strong operational competency with abrasive equipment and the physical ability to lift at least 5 lbs in a laboratory setting.


$36 - $42 an hour
