Full Job Description
Position Summary: The Supplier Quality Engineer is the focal point between MTM and suppliers. They are responsible for supplier development, supporting procurement and supplier performance improvements. Performs supplier audits, source inspections and supplier performance analysis activities.

Reports to: Supply Chain Manager

Personnel: Not applicable

Accountabilities: Accountable for understanding and following all SOPs and WIs related to job duties. Accountable for supplier performance including their quality and delivery performance. Accountable for periodic reports covering supplier quality and delivery performance as well as summary of RC/CA activities and on-going improvement activities.

Duties:
  • Monitor, track and report supplier performance internally and to suppliers,
  • Define and react to problems concerning supplier quality and delivery,
  • Lead RC/CA (root cause / corrective action) activities with suppliers,
  • Lead continuous improvement activities with suppliers,
  • Provide supplier training when necessary,
  • Conduct supplier audits and issue reports detailing audit findings and observations,
  • Follow-up on corrective and preventive actions related to supplier audit findings, nonconforming product and/or overall supplier performance to ensure effective resolutions and timely closure,
  • Build and maintain effective cross-functional relationships with suppliers and internal departments such as supply chain, engineering, manufacturing and quality,
  • Travel to suppliers for new product introductions, audits, continuous improvement activities or first article inspection as needed (50%),
  • Assist engineering in supply chain risk assessment and mitigation,
  • Assist supply chain in the consolidation of existing suppliers and recommendation of suppliers for purchase order award.

Job Qualification Requirements:

Educational Experience - Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain, manufacturing, engineering and/or supplier quality with a significant period spent dealing with supplier quality issues.

Experience
  • Previous experience in a high mix low volume manufacturing environment
  • Thorough knowledge of AS9100 and ISO9001 standards, Six Sigma, NPI and Lean concepts
  • ASQ quality certification preferred
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills
  • Adept at problem solving / root cause analysis
  • Sound knowledge of quality and manufacturing processes with an emphasis on fabrication and machining
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally
  • Proven project management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency to resolve issues
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to develop solid working relationships with suppliers and internal team
  • High attention to detail

Physical Demands - The employee is required to:
  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

Certification Required - None

Visual Acuity - Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading.

Working Conditions - Normally works in an office environment. Occasionally, the employee is subject to:
  • shop floor environment,
  • high noise levels from operating machines,
  • physical hazards from moving equipment and production components,
  • breathing fumes, dust and mist,
  • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids,
  • welding flash.
