Duties

Help

• Directs the full life cycle of physical access control systems, power over Ethernet surveillance systems, video management systems, intrusion detection systems, life-safety technologies, HSPD-12 systems, and enterprise security network architecture.
• Employs innovative, technology-driven security solutions aligned with federal mandates, national security standards, and agency mission requirements.
• Represents the agency in executive-level engagements, inter-agency coordination efforts, inspections, audits, and strategic security initiatives, exercising authority delegated by the chief of the Multi-Discipline Security Branch.
• Exercises full supervisory and managerial authority over subordinate personnel, including workforce planning, performance management, labor-management relationships, and disciplinary actions.

• You must be a current Career or Career-Conditional GPO employee to apply.
• Selectee must pass preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
• Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
• Confidential Financial Disclosure Report may be required.
• Selectee may be required to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.
• TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level (PG-13) or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify
• Selectee will be required to obtain and maintain FAC-COR level II certification within twelve months of appointment.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Supervisory Physical Security Specialist, PG-0080-14, you must have one year of experience at or equivalent to the PG-13 in the federal service that includes the following:

• Evaluating and troubleshooting electronic security systems and infrastructure projects including physical access control systems, intrusion detection systems, video monitoring systems, closed-circuit television, life-safety systems, or other associated security technologies.
• Ensuring physical security systems are operationally reliable, compliant with cybersecurity standards, and adherent to federal laws, regulations, building codes, and technical standards.
• Coordinating emergency response and crisis management activities related to agency security and infrastructure protection.
• Leading teams or working groups on projects or group assignments.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

This position is telework-eligible in accordance with agency policy.

Background Investigation for Top Secret Clearance:

To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Top-Secret clearance. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Top-Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. This security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Top Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
