Summary

As the Supervisory Industrial Hygienist, you will provide executive leadership, strategic direction, and final policy authority for the Center's comprehensive environmental, occupational health, and consumer safety programs.

Duties

Help

• Directs and authorizes Center-wide IH (Industrial Hygiene), HP (Health Physics), and Occupational Health programs and serves as final authority on federal regulatory compliance and strategic workplace safety policies.
• Exercises executive authority over Center-wide TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act) compliance and hazardous materials management and directs strategic tracking systems and chemical restriction policies.
• Serves as the final technical authority for the Health Physics program, directing radiological safety, NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) licensing compliance, and hazard mitigation strategies.
• Directs clinical governance, strategic operations, and contract oversight for the Occupational Medicine Clinic and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
• Directs executive safety committees, establishing Center-wide technical standards and driving strategic safety initiatives.
• Represents the Center as the principal authority on Agency-level working groups and the Institutional Safety and Health Board to negotiate national policies.
• Directs and holds ultimate regulatory accountability for the Center's food safety and sanitation program, ensuring strict compliance with public health standards.
• Directs the acquisition, strategic design, and executive oversight of multi-million dollar environmental and occupational health service contracts and PWS (Performance Work Statement).
• Perform a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:

• Directing a comprehensive Industrial Hygiene program as the final authority on OSHA and EPA compliance;
• Providing oversight and technical authority for health and safety programs; AND
• Overseeing operations, clinical governance, and resource allocation for various programs

Education

Basic Requirement:

You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science.

OR

Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree that included a major in engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.

OR

Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH)).

Supervisory probationary periods are not subject to the process outlined above. However, if you are also required to complete a standard probationary period, you will be subject to the requirements and conditions of both the standard and supervisory probationary periods.
