The Work You Will Do:

State Traffic Services Program Engineer

This position will consist of managing staff within Central Office Traffic Engineering and Operations Office under the Traffic Services Section. Other duties will consist of coordination and assistance to District personnel with traffic engineering service questions and issues, performing updates to Department manuals and procedures, assist with development and implementation of traffic control devices, represent Traffic Engineering & Operations Office on several Department technical committees, provide expertise on highway signing, signals, traffic safety, research, lead staff to serve as a project managers, provide training to Districts, establish and implement a section business plan, and oversee the Traffic Services Program budget and consultant contracts.

Annual Salary Range:

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Supervise staff and provide high-level engineering and technical assistance for the statewide program area of traffic engineering studies, highway signing, Elder Roadway User Program (Safe Mobility for Life) and traffic engineering research. Meet regularly with employees to assign work, establish work objectives and timelines to ensure the program is performed annually. Evaluates employee's performance during established timeframes throughout the year and formal review periods. Communicates regularly with direct reports, both individually and in staff meetings. Ensures that all paperwork required for processing pay documents and personnel matters, including performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, filing vacant positions and separations are completed accurately and processed in a timely manner.

Directs and coordinates efforts to maintain compliance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), by revising the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Rules, Procedures and Manuals to achieve traffic control methods. Provide interpretation of the MUTCD and other traffic control devices for other FDOT offices and local agencies.

Directs and monitors the completion of special traffic control projects and new programs at the statewide level. This includes engineering studies, traffic control device designs, product specifications, and use of experimental and developing traffic control programs. This includes signing and sealing of engineering documents.

Represents the FDOT and makes presentations at Federal and Statewide meetings concerning traffic engineering issues.

Assist the State Traffic Operations Engineer with the review and preparation of legislation affecting traffic control devices that are approved for use in Florida.

Provide technical engineering assistance to the State Traffic Operations Engineer for the certification of traffic control devices that are approved for use in Florida.
