About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory General Engineer (Chief of Test Safety) (NH-0801-04) to work at the 412 Test Wing, Wing Staff Agencies, Safety Office (412 TW/SET) at Edwards Air Force Base.

The 412 TW Test Safety (SET) Division oversees the Wing's responsibilities under AFTCI 91-202, AFTC Test Safety Review Policy, and the AFMC Supplement to AFI 91-202, The US Air Force Mishap Prevention Program. SET establishes policy and maintains the integrity of the Test Wing's test safety review process to ensure independent government review of safety planning to eliminate, reduce, and mitigate risks during test project execution.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)

Typical 2026 salary range: $146,632 - $197,200 per year (includes locality)

If your current basic salary is within the band, but above the stated VOP, your basic salary will not be reduced if you are selected for the position.

Telework Information: Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework"

Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible

Desired Skills:

- Deep engineering experience serving at the CTF level with experience in the test safety review process (e.g., Project Safety Lead or Unit Test Safety Officer for multiple elevated-risk test packages, or experienced Independent Safety Reviewer) desired

- Previous experience as 412 TW Safety Review Board Chair highly desired

- USAF Test Pilot School graduate desired (but not required)

Major Duties:

- Serves as the Wing's Test Safety Technical Expert, leading Edwards' test safety review program process and formulating Wing test safety policy

- Provides technical and test management expertise in flight systems, avionics systems, and electronic warfare areas for weapon system development and integration in support of test safety planning

- Oversees training of test safety professionals and develop/update training materials as needed.

- Oversees test safety annual program assessments and inspections of applicable units.

- Collaborates with Test Wing leaders to develop, maintain, and manage a core of test safety technical expertise

- Leads, manages, and mentors the office's test safety engineers

Qualifications/Requirements:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period. Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Top Secret" security clearance

- This is a designated Drug Testing Position

- DAWIA certification required

- Expert knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and techniques across multiple interrelated and integrated technical and test engineering disciplines.

- Expert knowledge of test safety evaluation involving flight sciences, avionics systems, and electronic warfare disciplines.

- Expert knowledge of flight and laboratory air vehicle/missile/weapon test conduct, coordination and supervision, data analysis/evaluation and applicable flight test truth sources, modeling and simulation, safety package preparation, and administrative aspects of flight test programs.
