Pay Range:$38.55 - $57.84
Bonus: $2,000.00 signing bonus available to external hires new to MHS employment, contingent upon satisfaction with employment requirements.
Purpose Statement / Position Summary:
The Sterile Processing Supervisor provides operational, regulatory, and personnel leadership for Sterile Processing services, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant reprocessing of surgical instruments, endoscopes, and patient care equipment. This position is accountable for staffing, employee performance, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, inventory oversight, productivity, and departmental performance outcomes. The Supervisor directs daily operations, develops and evaluates staff, monitors key performance indicators, implements process improvements, and collaborates with physicians, perioperative leadership, and clinical departments to ensure the availability of sterile instruments and equipment required to support patient care, procedural readiness, and organizational goals
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job:
• Provides direct supervision and leadership to Sterile Processing personnel, ensuring staff performance meets departmental, regulatory, and organizational expectations.
• Develops staffing plans, prepares and manages work schedules, monitors productivity, and allocates resources to ensure effective operational coverage and service delivery.
• Conducts employee performance evaluations, provides coaching and performance feedback, addresses attendance and conduct concerns, and administers corrective action in collaboration with Human Resources.
• Recruits, interviews, selects, trains, develops, and retains qualified staff to support departmental objectives and workforce succession planning.
• Maintains accountability for departmental compliance with manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), AAMI, AORN, OSHA, TJC, CMS, infection prevention requirements, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Directs departmental quality assurance activities, including audits, sterilization monitoring, documentation review, process validation, corrective action planning, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Establishes operational priorities and oversees department activities to ensure timely and accurate instrument reprocessing, equipment availability, and customer service support for procedural areas.
• Develops, monitors, analyzes, and reports departmental quality, productivity, turnaround-time, inventory, and customer service metrics, implementing improvement strategies as necessary.
• Oversee orientation, competency assessment, continuing education, certification support, and professional development activities to maintain a qualified and engaged workforce.
• Ensure processes are established and maintained for the management of surgical instrumentation, specialty equipment, loaner instrumentation, sterile supplies, and associated inventories.
• Evaluates operational workflows and leads process improvement initiatives designed to improve quality, safety, productivity, regulatory compliance, and resource utilization.
• Collaborates with physicians, Operating Room leadership, Infection Prevention, Supply Chain, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve operational issues and improve service delivery.
• Ensures effective utilization of instrument tracking technology to support traceability, compliance, inventory management, operational visibility, and data-driven decision-making.
Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent combination of education/experience preferred.
• Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required.
• Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) preferred.
• Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) preferred.
• Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) preferred.
• Minimum 4 years' relevant experience preferred.
• Minimum 3 years' day-to-day leadership experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance (AAMI, AORN, TJC, OSHA) and quality assurance processes.
• Experience collaborating with OR leadership, surgeons, and clinical teams preferred.
• Experience using and overseeing instrument tracking systems preferred.
