Supervisor, Pre-Surgical Testing Nurse Practitioner

Position Summary

Provides clinical and operational leadership for the Pre-Surgical Testing NP team while maintaining direct patient care responsibilities. The Supervisor ensures patients receive timely and comprehensive pre-surgical evaluations and are appropriately prepared for surgery. Works collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia, nursing, and other healthcare providers to support quality, safety, and efficient patient care.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day clinical supervision, leadership, and support to the Pre-Surgical Testing NP team.
  • Performs comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations.
  • Develops, documents, and communicates plans of care and ensures appropriate follow-up.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory work, medications, and diagnostic testing within scope of practice.
  • Completes medication reconciliation, skin attestation, VTE documentation, and other required clinical documentation.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiology, attending physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to ensure patients are appropriately evaluated and prepared for surgery.
  • Identifies abnormal findings or concerns requiring additional medical evaluation and facilitates appropriate follow-up.
  • Provides patients with pre-operative and post-discharge education and instructions.
  • Supports staff orientation, training, competency development, and ongoing clinical education.
  • Provides clinical guidance, feedback, and support to NP staff and assists with performance management as needed.
  • Monitors daily workflow, staffing, and patient volume to promote timely completion of pre-surgical evaluations.
  • Promotes compliance with hospital policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in quality improvement, performance improvement, research, and educational initiatives.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Pre-Surgical Testing NP team and hospital leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program required.
  • National Board Certification in specialty area required.
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner license required.
  • Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse license required.
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required.
  • Previous experience in pre-surgical testing, perioperative care, acute care, or a related clinical setting preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, organizational, and leadership skills required.
