Full Job Description
Accountable to provide leadership and supervision to model makers in the Model Shop, and technical and planning guidance to the engineering design team and Engineering Laboratory Leadership. Comprehends a wide variety of sheet metal and heat exchanger fabrication, testing and associated HVAC industry and regulatory standards, transactional processes. Can communicate effectively to direct subordinates as well as to Laboratory Leadership. Can effectively lead the area through identifying and implementing high-impact improvement projects. What you will do: • Provide leadership, planning, and direction for a team of model makers in the creation and execution of prototypes and associated parts for Norman engineering projects. • Maintain lab schedule to meet project timelines and make proactive adjustments based on staffing and other lab resources. • Identify safety, quality, and cost improvement opportunities and drive problem solving with appropriate teams. • Coach lab personnel in the implementation of continuous improvement projects and processes to eliminate waste, solve operational issues, and improve efficiency of lab operation. • Facilitate and promote teamwork and communications within different lab groups. • Supervise fabrication, prototype assembly, test sample preparation, and part inventory activities as needed. • Give input to manager regarding department budget to forecasts and plan. • Perform other duties as assigned by Engineering management consistent with company policies and procedures. How You Will Do: • Provide technical and supervisory leadership to model makers in the Model Shop. This includes planning and assigning work to team members, tracking assignment completion, assisting team members with problem resolution, coaching and training employees, people development, performance evaluation, salary management, and budget management. • Provide technical and planning guidance to the engineering design team and Engineering Leadership. • Practice positive employee relations and develop self and others. • Lead problem solving teams and assign continuous improvement projects to the team. • Track the impact of those projects on KPI's. • Participate actively in technological upgrade projects in the lab for improving the quality and throughput of test methods. • Ensure appropriate change management is executed for projects. Qualifications What we look for: Required • Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related discipline. Exceptional candidates with significant relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills • Ability to organize tasks and manage projects • Strong interpersonal skills; effective and professional communication • Proficiency using Microsoft Office modules: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, and Word Preferred • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC industry standards and testing • 2+ years of experience leading people including recruiting employees, planning and assigning work to team members, tracking schedule, assisting team members with problem resolution, people development, performance evaluation, salary management, etc. • Experience implementing Lean / Continuous Improvement projects in an organization. • Working knowledge of a Solid Modeling Software package (CAD) • Working knowledge of SAP BOM software • Ability to work in laboratory, manufacturing, and office environments Your well-being matters at Bosch!
