Position Summary

The Network and Communication Services (NCS) unit is searching for a Supervisor of the Infrastructure Design Team who will manage the team supporting the voice and data infrastructure at the University at Buffalo. As a Supervisor, it is expected that you will mentor and develop employees, including developing training plans, and ensuring your teams share skills and knowledge. As a leader, is it expected that you will understand the technical environment surrounding the voice and data infrastructure at the University. This is a campus-based position with the possibility of hybrid-work.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with university constituencies to meet needs and deliver consistent services
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and University regulations and policies, as well as industry best practices (CSI, NFPA, etc.)
  • Identify risks that need to be managed by standards and create, establish, and enforce relevant standards, particularly CSI Division 27, to manage those risks
  • Plan, assess risks, budget, and manage service lifecycles
  • Consult, project manage, and develop IT policies
  • Maintain inventories and recommend resources
  • Supervise personnel: Monitor workloads, communicate issues, and handle administrative tasks
  • Mentor and develop employees, schedule work, and maintain service coverage
  • Recruit, retain, and manage team performance and handle personnel issues
  • Provide technical advice and stay updated on current and emerging technologies
  • Develop project plans and lead project teams
  • Mentor and develop employees, enable training opportunities, and guide career development


Additional Information:

All the duties and responsibilities listed above continue to occur in a 24x7 environment, therefore, working extended hours, holidays, or varied hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with 3 years of experience OR master's degree with 1 year of experience; Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. This experience should encompass many technical aspects of network and communication services in a large environment with more than 1000 users.
  • Two years of experience in managing a technical team
  • This position requires local travel between each university campus and off-campus. This position will also have to visit active construction sites to view and audit in-progress voice and data installations. Must have the ability to demonstrate that the candidate can meet the transportation needs of this position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Six years of experience managing service delivery teams in a University or similar environment
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated skills in handling personnel and interpersonal issues
  • Prepare and write appraisals and performance programs
  • Conduct recruitment efforts as well as employee dismissals

Driving Requirements
Driving is not a required duty for this position. Employees who choose to operate university vehicles for business purposes must be enrolled in the LENS program to verify a valid Class D driver's license.
