This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Wednesday, September 2,2026.

This position pays between $120,640.00 to $150,800.00 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees, supports, directs and supervises the team of engineers who provide hydraulic modeling analysis, engineering support, and consultation for NMGC. Provides training, motivation, and technical support for the development of the operations engineers.
  • Establishes and maintains a collaborative team environment that develops forecast models and planning analyses to support the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), identifies reliability concerns, and develops solutions. Participates in system planning for projects related to future natural gas system expansion and modifications. Provides consultation and assistance for major load additions and evaluates projects of an unusual nature.
  • Provides oversight and guidance to support the application of advanced hydraulic modeling techniques. Serves as project lead for all levels of modeling assignments. Oversees and prioritizes multiple assignments and obtains the necessary data to effectively identify and resolve routine to moderately complex issues. Trains and mentors team members and provides technical support for hydraulic modeling software, including coordination of software maintenance through IT Service Requests. Coordinates third-party training on hydraulic modeling software and practices.
  • Formulates, implements, and ensures compliance with company engineering, design, and construction specifications and procedures related to hydraulic modeling. Provides technical expertise in the application of hydraulic modeling principles and practices. Performs decision analysis on complex issues involving gas transmission, distribution, system planning, pipeline operations, project management, risk assessment and management, integrity management, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations. Represents the Company's interests.
  • Contributes to annual capital, responds to business development requests. Responsible for O&M budgets and associated forecasting activities, including related tools, methods, and procedures.
  • Coordinates and communicates with Gas Supply, Gas Management, Engineering and Gas Control to ensure reliability plans include detailed engineering solutions that support the operation and growth of NMGC. Provides consultation and assistance for major load additions and evaluates projects of an unusual nature. Supports hydraulic modeling for budgeting, O&M, and capital construction projects ensuring Engineering utilizes current technology to implement advanced hydraulic modeling in coordination with Gas Management and Gas Control.
  • Provides on-call hydraulic modeling support to evaluate system outages and calculate unintentional gas releases. Coordinates the use of hydraulic models to determine the volume of gas lost during incidents.
  • Supports the development of active links between transmission and distribution models and evaluates linear regressions for peak-day and design-day models. Participates in model validation using SCADA data for real-time inputs, and analyzing system configurations to optimize gas supply and off-system sales.


Successful Candidate Must Have:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a program accredited by ABET in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Petroleum, Metallurgy/Material Science, Electrical or Construction Engineering
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • 4 years of experience performing the duties and responsibilities of this or a similar position.
  • 3 years of direct experience supervising a team and/or leading projects
  • Preferences: Hydraulic modeling experience in the natural gas industry (utility, mid-stream, or consulting). Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or Petroleum ABET-accredited degree. EIT or PE in the state of New Mexico


Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office environment during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime may be required to meet business needs, project deadlines, and outage response requirements. Periodic field visits may be necessary to gather data and support engineering and modeling activities. Requires managing multiple priorities and responding to time-sensitive operational and emergency situations. May be assigned to the Call-Out rotation schedule and serve as an after-hours coordinator for emergency modeling and response activities. Physical requirements include working in field conditions, walking on rough or uneven terrain, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for assigned duties.
