The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $87990 - $116578.8. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
This position may also be eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP). AIP amounts are variable and are dependent on both company and individual performance, subject to eligibility criteria. The target bonus percentage for this role is 10% of annual base earnings.
The supervisor will work closely with the department manager to oversee the daily activities necessary to achieve our Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC). They will supervise a team consisting of hourly team members on the afternoon shift. They provide day-to-day work direction for the team, focused on maintaining steady workflow and productivity and resolving operational decisions. The supervisor will promote a safety culture, taking all reasonable precautions to protect team members from illness or injury.
Key Responsibilities - Leadership & People Management: Uphold and promote a professional work environment, addressing minor conflicts and fostering teamwork in line with S&C's values. Monitor team tasks and provide regular feedback, both constructive and encouraging. Recognize and acknowledge team achievements and guide team members toward growth opportunities through mentoring and coaching.
- Department Leadership: Provide day-to-day leadership support for the department, including supporting all administrative tasks completion, issue resolution, and the seamless coordination of resources. Supervise and guide the team to ensure all job orders and daily metrics are met.
- Fabrication Operations: Oversee and guide team members on fabrication processes and workflows, coordinating with department leaders and cascading best practices down to team members through team leads. Ensure team members have the correct training, knowledge, and fabrication equipment to complete their work successfully. Support the planning and coordination of department production schedules, production rates and capacity plans, processing methods, and times. Review and ensure team understanding of goals and oversee the upkeep of KPI boards.
- Quality Management: Conduct inspections of welded parts, finished products or other fabricated materials, ensuring compliance with specifications and initiating corrective actions when needed. Enforce quality control measures to ensure products meet or exceed company standards. Support initiatives to continuously improve product quality and consistency. Set and maintain high levels of product quality. Support communication of corrective action plans, resolutions, and quality results.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Promote safety awareness and housekeeping, investigate and report on safety incidents, maintain and promote a safety-conscious manufacturing environment, enforce health and safety policies and procedures to create a safe working environment for all employees, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to production operations.
- Reporting: Create production and status reports. Communicates regularly with upper management regarding problems impacting production. Reports issues regarding production, quality, maintenance, or personnel to the function leadership.
- Budget Support: Support the Manager in overseeing the department's budget, providing recommendations and helping to review expenditures.
- Compliance: Understand and comply with all applicable industry policies, Company policies and rules.
Minimum Requirements are: - 5-7+ years of hands-on experience in fabrication or manufacturing environment (Puch presses, Laser cutting, Metal forming, welding).
- 2-3 years of previous supervisory or lead-hand experience in a fabrication shop preferred
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop shop floor employees in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong scheduling and workflow coordination across multiple fabrication processes
- Ability to prioritize work, manage bottlenecks, and meet production deadlines
- Experience driving productivity, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong decision-making skills with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset
- Strong Knowledge of shop safety practices and Ontario OHSA requirements
- Experience enforcing safe work procedures, PPE compliance, and incident prevention
- Strong leadership skills within a manufacturing environment, with an ability to lead, guide, motivate, and delegate to deliver results.
- Solid critical thinking, organizational, planning, and project management skills, and creative problem-solving when obstacles arise.
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation), able to liaise with internal stakeholders from support staff to function leadership.
- The ability to work beyond normal working hours to support the business needs.
- Proficient computer skills, including experience using Oracle HCM and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), are a valuable asset.
Physical Effort:Normal or frequent minor physical effort required for the day-to-day activity in the workplace. May involve standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs and lifting/moving/using objects or equipment up to 20lbs.
Work Environment:Acceptable working environment with minor or almost no disagreeable or challenging working conditions as part of everyday expected levels (all jobs will occasionally experience undesirable or disagreeable events).
