About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Supervisor, Environment to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.

This role operates on a rotation of 14 days on / 14 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Environmental, you will be responsible for providing essential departmental and technical leadership, overseeing the day-to-day work of field crews and contractors. This position is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of the Mine's Environmental Monitoring Plan and achieving compliance with all regulatory and permit requirements.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise, mentor, and coach the Environment Department staff to ensure the timely completion of field programs, data management, environmental incident management, and reporting.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of external consultants contracted to the department.
  • Support the development and implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure safe, efficient operation and compliance with all existing permits, licenses, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate on-site environmental monitoring and data collection activities.
    Implement and effectively communicate environmental policies and standards across the site.
  • Review and oversee all project and site activities from an environmental perspective to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and fulfill commitments made to First Nations groups.
  • Identify and actively mitigate environmental risks associated with project and site activities.
  • Ensure full understanding and compliance with all environmental permits and regulatory requirements (e.g., Environmental Management Act, Mines Act, Fisheries Act, MDMER).


About You

The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:

  • Bachelor's degree or college technical diploma in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience, with a preference for experience in a mining environment, including demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration in a professional discipline (e.g., R.P.Bio, P.Ag, P.Geo) is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong technical writing and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with relevant BC and federal environmental legislation and regulations (e.g., Environmental Management Act, Mines Act, HS&RC for Mines in BC, Fisheries Act, Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulation (MDMER)) would be an asset.
  • A details and results-oriented approach with the ability to multi-task and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • A demonstrable leader with a focus on team development and coaching.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • BC Mine Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain training).
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain training).
  • Industrial ATV/UTV and snowmobile operator certificates (or willingness to obtain training).
  • Pleasure craft operator card (or willingness to obtain training).


Working Conditions

  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14 x 14, 12 hours per day
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO - TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James and Mackenzie
