Job Description

This Laboratory Supervisor role is specific to the Anatomic Pathology Department. The supervisor will provide direct oversight of anatomic pathology operations, workflows, and staff. Current certification as a Histotechnologist (HT or HTL) is required to perform and ensure appropriate technical expertise and leadership within the AP environment.

Exempt position. Function independently and collaboratively with the laboratory leadership in performing supervision of laboratory staff - hiring and termination, performance review, coaching and corrective action and development of performance Improvement plans. Provides site operation oversight. Responsible to implement LEAN workflow principles in laboratory processes when possible. Implements best practices when possible in all aspects of laboratory operations. Site responsibility may include technical oversight of work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. May perform a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and act as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. May be responsible for instrument correlation, and method validation. Correlate data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs and performance improvement activities. Assist with staff and student training, orientation of new employees, reviewing and updating procedures and providing direction and problem solving skills for laboratory functions. Implement standardization efforts in the laboratory.

Qualifications

  • Four years of experience actively working in a moderate or high complexity clinical laboratory.
  • Current certification as a Histotechnologist (HT or HTL) is required to perform and ensure appropriate technical expertise and leadership within the AP environment.

  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance and maintain competency and perform laboratory testing and procedures as needed.
