Position Overview

The Supervisor, Accessioning is responsible for ensuring the priorities of the department (Biological Sample Management (BSM)) are completed accurately and effectively, while providing supervision for the team performing pre and post analytic activities. A successful Supervisor, Accessioning will complete the responsibilities below to ensure the success and growth of Molecular Laboratory Operations at Adaptive Biotechnologies.

Working hours: Tuesday - Saturday 10:00am - 6:30pm PST

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Primary Responsibilities
  • Responsible for daily tasks and priorities of the accessioning team including overseeing safe working conditions, specimen accessioning, sample returns and discards, freezer management and equipment and laboratory maintenance.
  • Creates, maintains, and modifies laboratory schedule; plans for and manages time for self and team to ensure tasks and deadlines are met.
  • Regularly reviews employee performance and development; provides corrective action and coaching as required.
  • Participates in the interview, selection and hiring of new employees.
  • Responsible for tracking employee PTO and coverage, ensuring timecard accuracy and approving timecards by due date.
  • Assists in training new and incumbent team members.
  • Leads by example and models appropriate cultural and professional behavior.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional leadership on scheduling and training activities that impact BSM and upstream and downstream teams such as Sample Prep, Clinical Services, Study Management Team
  • Monitors incoming workflow from logistics vendors and communicates any changes in workload to key stakeholders.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains Standard Operating Procedures, employee training and competencies.
  • Organizes, leads, and participates in projects that contribute to the company's mission and growth.
  • Ensures alignment with team for reasoning behind instructions/processes, workflow changes, why certain ideas cannot be implemented effectively.
  • Develops, prepares, and maintains key performance indicators for department success.
  • Prepares and presents pertinent information in daily huddles and department meetings.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify when a Nonconformance, Deviation or CA/PA is necessary, and appropriately escalates issues that could impact quality or result in delay of patient testing/test results.
  • Regulatory responsibilities per Good Clinical Practices (GCP), CAP, and CLIA, including preparing for and participating in audits.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)

Required
  • Earned BS degree in a Chemical, Physical or Biological Science + 7 years of related experience. (Related experience should include greater than four years of pertinent experience in a clinical, research, academic or biotech lab; and/or specimen collection; and/or accessioning; and/or healthcare).
  • OREarned MS degree with a major in Chemical, Physical or Biological Science + 4 years of related experience. (Related experience should include greater than four years of pertinent experience in a clinical, research, academic or biotech lab; and/or specimen collection; and/or accessioning; and/or healthcare).
  • Supervisory or team lead experience

Preferred
  • Experience in a high throughput clinical, research or pathology testing laboratory
  • Experience managing hourly employees.
  • Molecular biology skills (e.g., DNA extraction) and related technical knowledge
  • Experience with laboratory automation and demonstrated laboratory best practices.
  • Ability to work in an accurate and timely manner in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Ability to pivot priorities based on emerging and fast-changing business needs.
  • Experience with LIMS systems such as LabVantage, and web-based applications
  • High integrity and experience with HIPAA compliance
  • Experience delivering excellent customer service.
  • Any additional trainings or courses relevant to the role

Working Conditions

This role involves working in a laboratory and handling human biological specimens. Role requires flexibility and willingness to work more than standard hours when necessary, including nights and weekends.

Physical Requirements
  • Individuals are required to sit or stand for much of the workday and perform data entry into computer systems.
  • Individuals should also be able to lift up to 30lbs.
  • Individuals should be able to wear personal protective gear correctly while in the laboratory.

Compensation

Salary Range: $71,400 - $107,200

Other compensation elements include:

The base salary range represents a minimum-to-maximum salary (or hourly rate) available to candidates upon extension of offer. Base salary is thoughtfully considered upon offer and is determined through multiple evaluation checks throughout the interview process, including: a candidate's ability to meet minimum qualifications (skills/experience/education), a candidate's ability to thoughtfully address preferred qualifications, current market conditions, and internal pay equity. Listed base salary is exclusive of bonus, commission, equity, differential pay, benefits, and other incentives.
