SALARY RANGE

$78,588.00 - $125,740.00 Annually

JOB SUMMARY

A Superintendent of Plans and Inspections oversees the review of plans for highway and new development construction projects and the response to citizen requests for traffic control devices for compliance with traffic maintenance regulations and standards. Work of this class involves supervising investigative and engineering personnel.

Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; callback may be required in emergencies. Work is performed in an office where normal working conditions are encountered. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have an associate degree from an accredited college

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have five years of experience in traffic engineering or traffic investigation work including two years of such lead responsibilities as assigning, reviewing and approving work of others.

OR

(NOTES)EQUIVALENCIES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Non-specialized experience or education may not be substituted for the required specialized experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.

PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of traffic signal systems.
  • Knowledge of construction problems that affect a municipal traffic signal system and its operation.
  • Knowledge of traffic investigation procedures.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and evaluate the work of others.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to review and approve plans for a variety of projects.
  • Ability to maintain effective liaison with others.
  • Ability to analyze work procedures for efficiency and cost-effectiveness and to develop recommendations.
  • Ability to maintain records and write narrative and statistical reports.
  • Supervisory ability.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation

Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
