Superintendent - MillwrightPlay an integral role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality construction execution as a Superintendent - Millwright. In this leadership position, you will oversee millwright craft operations on complex industrial construction projects, driving productivity, workforce development, and operational excellence while ensuring work is executed to the highest standards of safety and quality.
As a key member of the site leadership team, you will coordinate field execution activities, manage large groups of forepeople and craft professionals, and help ensure critical mechanical installations, equipment setting, alignment, maintenance, and commissioning support activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules and customer expectations.
Purpose of the roleThe Superintendent - Millwright is responsible for leading and directing all millwright construction activities within an assigned area of a project site. This role provides leadership for scheduling, workface planning, workforce management, craft supervision, apprentice development, safety performance, productivity improvement, and quality assurance.
You will work closely with project management, construction leadership, engineering, quality, and customer teams to ensure millwright work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project objectives. Through strong field leadership, you will create a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
You will be responsible for- Leading millwright field operations and directing forepeople, supervisors, and craft personnel to achieve project objectives.
- Promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Planning, scheduling, and coordinating millwright work activities to support overall project execution and milestone achievement.
- Developing and implementing workface planning strategies that maximize workforce effectiveness and productivity.
- Monitoring manpower requirements, workforce utilization, labor productivity, and crew performance throughout all phases of construction.
- Allocating resources effectively to maintain manpower balance and support construction priorities.
- Providing technical guidance and leadership for equipment installation, alignment, maintenance, mechanical assembly, and related millwright activities.
- Ensuring work is completed in accordance with engineering requirements, project specifications, quality standards, and customer expectations.
- Monitoring construction costs and productivity metrics while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Supporting apprentice development and workforce training initiatives to build capability and strengthen craft excellence.
- Coordinating closely with other construction disciplines to ensure efficient execution and minimize schedule disruptions.
- Participating in constructability reviews, planning meetings, risk assessments, and execution strategy discussions.
- Resolving field challenges, productivity barriers, and workforce issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Applying company labor relations practices and fostering positive workforce engagement.
- Preparing reports, forecasts, progress updates, and workforce planning information for construction leadership.
- Supporting commissioning, startup, and turnover activities as required to achieve successful project completion.
What you'll bring to the role You are an experienced construction leader with deep millwright expertise and a proven ability to lead large craft workforces on complex industrial projects. You understand how to balance safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance while motivating teams to achieve exceptional results.
Key qualifications include:
- Typically 12+ years of millwright, mechanical construction, industrial maintenance, or related construction experience.
- Journey-level Millwright certification where required by local regulations or project requirements.
- Demonstrated experience supervising large millwright crews on industrial construction, energy, chemicals, manufacturing, mining, infrastructure, power, or major capital projects.
- Strong knowledge of equipment installation, mechanical systems, rigging practices, precision alignments, rotating equipment, heavy industrial construction, and maintenance activities.
- Proven ability to develop work plans, manage labor resources, and drive field productivity improvements.
- Experience leading forepeople, supervisors, apprentices, and craft personnel in fast-paced project environments.
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling, workface planning, workforce forecasting, and execution methodologies.
- Knowledge of labor relations practices and workforce management principles.
- Advanced understanding of systems, tools, processes, and technologies used within millwright and industrial construction environments.
- Excellent communication, team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities with the ability to make sound decisions in dynamic field environments.
