Superintendent

Full-time, Permanent

Vancouver, BC

We are currently seeking a Civil Superintendent who will oversee day-to-day field operations for civil infrastructure and utility construction projects. This role is responsible for coordinating crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project design, quality standards, schedules, and budgets. This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering sewer, water, roadwork, and underground utility projects while working alongside a team that values collaboration, accountability, and strong field leadership. This position is based in Location, with travel to various project sites.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining and promoting a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and following all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identifying and communicating workplace hazards and correcting or seeking assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Oversee day-to-day field operations and coordinate crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials to ensure projects are executed safely and efficiently.
  • Support the successful delivery of civil and utility installation projects by helping maintain project schedules, budgets, and production targets.
  • Provide leadership and direction to field personnel while promoting a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Coordinate daily and short-term work plans to ensure resources are utilized effectively and project milestones are achieved.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to ensure work is completed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor productivity and quality performance, identifying and resolving field issues in collaboration with project stakeholders.
  • Conduct site inspections and support compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, production tracking, change documentation, and other project records.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Field Engineers, subcontractors, clients, and other stakeholders to resolve challenges and achieve project objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Technical Trades certification, Civil Engineering Technology diploma, construction-related education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in heavy civil, municipal infrastructure, utility installation, or underground construction projects.
  • Previous supervisory experience leading construction crews and coordinating subcontractors on active project sites.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods, underground utilities, sewer, water, and roadwork projects.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with project management and scheduling tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organized, motivated, and results-driven, with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Valid driver's license for the type(s) of vehicles driven, with an acceptable driving record as determined by the Michels Review Team.
