Job Description JOB SUMMARYThe Superintendent-Lift Stations is a field position responsible for managing the financial, physical, and human resources associated with the operation, inspection, maintenance and emergency response for lift stations in the wastewater collection system in accordance with all regulatory and safety guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Supervises, selects, develops, trains, and evaluates assigned staff. Makes recommendations for corrective action, up to and including termination.
- Forecasts, allocates, and monitors the human, physical and financial resources for the assigned area.
- Plans, prioritizes, monitors, reviews, and reports field activities for operation, inspection and maintenance of the lift stations in the wastewater collection system.
- Develops, evaluates, and implements plans during normal and crisis situations to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulatory statutes. This includes sanitary sewer overflow response.
- Facilitates safety committees, work planning groups, and special project teams.
- Coordinates with other organizational groups, crafts, and operational staff.
- Serves as technical lead on procurement of new parts, machinery and equipment.
- Provides training and guidance to crews by assigning and checking work for efficiency and quality. Trains and mentors employees on safety and technical aspects of the job.
- Develops standard operating procedures and / or guidelines to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality.
- Reviews and recommends changes to engineering reports, schematics, and construction plans / specifications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING- The Superintendent works under limited supervision/guidance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Management, Construction Management, Science, Public Administration or related field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency PLUS five years' progressive experience in construction, water, and / or wastewater.
- including two years in a supervisory / lead role.
- TCEQ Class "III" Wastewater Collection Operator License or TCEQ Class "B" Wastewater Operator License upon hire.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Work Zone Traffic Control, Excavation Safety, and Confined Space Awareness training and/or certification.
- Pass position specific physical testing, including respiratory fit testing.
OR - High School Diploma / GED PLUS eight years of progressive experience in construction, water, and / or wastewater.
- Including two years in a supervisory / lead role.
- TCEQ Class "III" Wastewater Collection Operator License or TCEQ Class "B" Wastewater Operator License upon hire.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Work Zone Traffic Control, Excavation Safety, and Confined Space Awareness training and/or certification.
- Pass position specific physical testing, including respiratory fit testing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience in maintenance of wastewater collection systems, specifically lift stations

- Proficient skill in the use of materials, tools, utility calculations and equipment commonly used in construction, maintenance, or repair of wastewater treatment and collection systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONSThis position is subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, and kneeling to perform essential functions. Working conditions are in an office and field environment. Field environment has frequent exposure to inclement weather; wastewater; mechanical, electrical, chemical and confined space hazards; offensive fumes; excessive noise; heavy traffic; deep excavations; and animals, snakes and poisonous insects. May be required to comply with requirements as specified in applicable regulations for personal protective equipment, including clearance for use of respiratory protection and other associated equipment. Operates a company vehicle on a daily basis.
May be required to work other than regular schedule such as days, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
