Full Job Description
Essential Job Functions:

Project Engineering

  • Manages, sponsors, and coordinates projects both internally and externally to meet the goals of the department and the Mill.
  • Develops or works with suppliers in the design and implementation of projects to reduce cost and improve quality and reliability of the papermaking process and equipment.


Process Control

  • Ensures that various control systems are installed and maintained to provide maximum availability, reliability, and quality of paper machine and auxiliary process systems. The systems include Quality Control Systems (QCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Variable Frequency Drive Systems (Drives) and instrumentation.
  • Provides support to the mill operations teams for the control systems.
  • Assists the E & I maintenance team for troubleshooting process and equipment problems.
  • Provides process optimization solutions and tunes the control systems.
  • Provides training on control systems and instrumentation.
  • Oversees the preventive maintenance of the Electrical Distribution Systems in the Mill.
  • Coordinates with E & I maintenance, mechanical maintenance, and production teams on daily schedules and planned maintenance outages.


Power Distribution

  • Coordinates annual preventive maintenance and testing of the electrical power distribution system equipment.
  • Monitors Mill power requirements both present and future.
  • Develops and implements emergency power plans.


Management

  • Promotes the Mill Safety Program in all aspects.
  • Oversees and coordinates service contracts with Allen Bradley/Rockwell software.
  • Provides assistance for the E & I maintenance team.
  • Provides instruction and knowledge base for production groups to aid in their understanding of the process control systems.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to apply analytical skills to improve safety and solve communications network challenges.
  • Experience with the maintenance and design of power distribution systems.
  • Thorough understanding of the manufacture of paper machine drive systems. Experience on a gap former is helpful.
  • Physical condition- ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Position requires extended periods of standing or walking.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, Allen Bradley/Rockwell software products, WonderWare in Touch, and Parkview desired.


Minimum Qualifications:

Experience in engineering distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers in a manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with 5+ years of experience in engineering, and /or 10+ years of experience maintaining paper mill process control and electrical systems. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.


Environmental Conditions:

The work environment includes regularly working near moving equipment. The noise exposure in the work environment is loud. The mill can also be very hot or very cold and many times may be damp or even wet. Some travel may be required to work on systems issues with vendors.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Lead E & I Lead Technicians and E & I Technicians.

Relationships With Others:

Position requires interaction with Crew Leaders, Production Management, Technical Staff, Crew Members, and Maintenance personnel. Frequently interfaces with suppliers/vendors to resolve system issues.

Authority:

The E & I Superintendent has commensurate authority to execute duties within the constraints of the Company policies and procedures, and legal regulation.
