Super Chief Engineer

Position Summary

The Super Chief serves as the primary point of contact for facilities management, coordinating tenant requirements and service delivery while assisting the Regional Manager and Senior Facility Manager. This hands-on role encompasses preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building automation, and facility systems within a manufacturing/R&D/office environment portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Operations & Maintenance
  • Performs and schedules maintenance programs for mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and auxiliary equipment to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency.
  • Conducts general building maintenance including structural repairs, tenant comfort issues, painting, grounds maintenance, and emergency response.
  • Maintains building infrastructure documentation including current drawings, single-lines, and regulatory compliance records.


Team Leadership & Coordination
  • Supervises and manages engineering and maintenance staff including hiring, training, and professional development.
  • Coordinates contractor activities, evaluates performance, and maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Manages daily field operational issues and ensures timely resolution of service requests through CMMS system.


Compliance & Safety
  • Implements and administers safety training programs while identifying and remediating safety hazards.
  • Maintains OSHA and Workers' Compensation documentation.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to building operations.
  • Tests and maintains emergency equipment in working order.


Tenant Relations & Service Delivery
  • Provides prompt, courteous response to tenant requests within JLL guidelines.
  • Manages Operations Audit process and maintains KPI databases.
  • Identifies energy savings opportunities and implements operational improvements to reduce consumption.


Administrative Functions
  • Purchases parts and supplies according to budget guidelines.
  • Establishes inventory control programs with appropriate stocking levels.
  • Maintains current and historical preventive maintenance records.
  • Documents all work orders and closes tickets in CMMS system promptly.


Required Skills
  • Minimum 3 years commercial HVAC service and repair experience OR 5 years military experience with HVAC systems
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Universal CFC certification
  • Hands-on expertise in commercial HVAC systems including pumps, motors, air handlers, automation/controls, and electrical systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, web-based applications, and handheld devices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, mechanical drawings, and safety documentation
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and Motor Vehicle Report
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, navigate stairs, inspect roofs, and perform hands-on mechanical work
  • Availability for weekends, extended hours, and on-call emergency response

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and card access systems
  • Knowledge of door/gate systems, building envelope systems, and lighting controls
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms for work order management
  • Experience supervising maintenance teams in commercial property environments
  • Additional trade certifications (electrical, plumbing, EPA Section 608)
  • Energy management or LEED operations experience
  • Prior experience in manufacturing, R&D, or multi-use facility environments

Working Environment
  • Team-oriented environment requiring daily interaction with colleagues, tenants, and contractors in person, by phone, and via email.
  • Work involves indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to mechanical equipment, roof inspections, and varying environmental conditions.
