About the Role

This role is responsible for managing subsurface data to ensure it is trusted, accessible, and aligned with business needs. This role supports subsurface teams working exploration and production in the Gulf of America and Gulf of Mexico by improving data quality, enabling efficient workflows, and making subsurface data readily accessible for both traditional subsurface interpretation workflows as well as advanced AI-driven data analysis processes.

This role will report to the Manager of Subsurface Data Services and is based in Houston, Texas.

Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Asset team support - Gulf of America (GOA)/Gulf of Mexico (GOM) Exploration and Production
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for all subsurface data management requirements and requests for the GOA/GOM Exploration teams and GOA production teams.
  • Partners with subsurface team members to help develop, implement, and support geological and geophysical data workflows within Woodside's current data architecture, and recommends/implements future changes to gain efficiencies.
  • Delivers large and complex volumes of subsurface technical data using project management techniques by effectively managing scope, timeline and resourcing.
  • Leverages quality assurance metrics to identify and resolve data quality issues by identifying root cause(s) of issues to apply proactive data assurance
  • Acts as the technical authority to optimize the subsurface data lifecycle by aligning it with business processes and leveraging partnerships to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance operational performance.

Strategic Partnership Collaboration
  • Identifies and oversees tasks suitable for strategic partnerships, ensuring they meet quality standards, align with organizational objectives, and contribute effectively to business goals.
  • Defines service quality metrics and service level agreements for data-related outsourced services and manage vendor relationships and service quality.
  • Successfully integrates with a global team of both Woodside staff and Service Providers to develop strategies for deploying projects adding value to the delivery of subsurface data and information.

Innovation
  • Drives continuous improvement and the adoption of innovative solutions while maintaining world class service standards.
  • Reimagines subsurface data management and accelerates the journey to the next generation of subsurface data management, enabling AI-driven workflows while adhering to a robust data governance model.
  • Monitors emerging technologies to inform and evolve our subsurface data strategy.
  • Defines and delivers the strategy and data architecture for the movement, classification, storage and analysis of subsurface digital data, including cloud technologies when required.
  • Builds and maintains cross-disciplinary relationships and collaboration networks within Woodside and with industry experts to develop and implement data management strategies that foster innovation, ensure best practices, and drive continuous improvement.


Skills and Experience

  • Required:
    • Deep understanding of managing complex well and seismic datasets, preferably with experience directly supporting subsurface teams working with deepwater Gulf of America data using industry software (e.g., Schlumberger or Halliburton).
    • Hands-on coding experience with Python or related scripting tools to automate data loading tasks.
    • Awareness of AI technology and how data management supports emerging automated workflows.
    • Experience with project management principles.
    • Knowledge of the exploration and production business, specifically the subsurface data lifecycle.
    • Demonstrates strong teamwork and influencing skills.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex technical challenges effectively as part of a dynamic and integrated team.
    • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to high accuracy and safety standards.
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Geoscience, Engineering, Information Sciences, or a related field.
  • Preferred
    • Experience with cloud technology (AWS, Azure, Snowflake)
    • PPDM CPDA (Certified Petroleum Data Analyst) credentials
